Sweetser is a behavioral health nonprofit that provides evidence-based treatment, support & hope.

Serving Maine since 1828, Sweetser’s caring and compassionate professionals connect approximately 20,000 children, adults and family members with services including mental and behavioral health, intellectual and developmental disabilities, recovery and education. 🎃 HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM SWEETSER 👻

Our administrative building in S**o got a video game-inspired makeover for Halloween! From Super Mario and Pac-Man to Madden NFL, Sonic the Hedgehog, Minecraft, and The Legend of Zelda, our staff brought some gaming favorites to life with creative decorations!

The best part? Welcoming students from Sweetser's Special Purpose School, residential program, and crisis unit for some trick-or-treating fun! 🍭 It was a wonderful opportunity to share some smiles, sweet treats, and Halloween spirit with our students.

A big thank you to our staff who went above and beyond to make this a fun and memorable celebration for everyone! 🧡

Connecting with Maine's Social Work Community! 💚

Sweetser's Affiliates Program Manager, Jan Dubois, and Recruiter, Emily Grant, recently attended the NASW Maine Chapter Annual Conference!

The conference provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with social work professionals from across the state, share information about career opportunities and Sweetser's Affiliates Program, and build relationships with those dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of Mainers.

Thank you to NASW Maine for bringing together professionals who are making a difference in our communities every day! We're excited to continue growing our network and connecting with individuals who share Sweetser's mission of providing hope and healing.

Today marks three years since the October 25th, 2023, tragedy in Lewiston that took 18 lives and forever changed countless others.

We remember the lives lost, honor the survivors and their families, and stand with everyone whose lives continue to be impacted. We are reminded that while healing takes time, no one should have to navigate grief, trauma, or recovery alone.

At Sweetser, we remain committed to providing long-term hope and healing to the Lewiston community and all those who need support. Anniversaries of traumatic events can bring difficult emotions to the surface, sometimes unexpectedly. Sweetser's crisis leaders recently traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, for CrisisCon26, an exciting opportunity to connect with fellow behavioral health professionals, exchange ideas, and explore innovative strategies to strengthen crisis services here in Maine! Representing Sweetser were Doug Weaver, Director of Clinical Adult Residential; Joanne Grant, Chief Growth Officer; and Elise Chase, Director of Crisis Services. Beyond the conference sessions, our team enjoyed dinner with fellow crisis provider The Opportunity Alliance, strengthening our partnership and collaboration while having some fun along the way!

And of course, one of the biggest highlights of the trip? The therapy dogs! A wonderful reminder of the comfort and connection our four-legged friends can bring to mental health and wellness. We're grateful for opportunities like CrisisCon that inspire new ideas, foster meaningful partnerships, and help us continue advancing crisis care for Mainers across the state!
