Airshow at Post 490 this weekend: Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1

Watch Wings Over Houston and the USAF Thunderbirds from the Post parking lot, across from Ellington Field. Parking by donation, lot opens 8:00 AM. Sausage on a stick, turkey legs, cold drinks, 50/50 raffle and a kids' costume contest. Volunteers still needed: call Casey Coyne at (337) 517-7637.

Also in this week's blast: only 11 of 40 seats left for each Salute to Service event (RSVP by Friday, October 30), 616 members and 33 transfers this year, and three new stories from legion.org.

Airshow at Post 490: menu and prices are set for Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1

Watch Wings Over Houston and the USAF Thunderbirds from the Post parking lot, across from Ellington Field. Parking by donation, lot opens 8:00 AM. Sausage on a stick with chips and a drink $5, turkey leg with chips and a drink $15, b**r $3, soda and water $1. 50/50 raffle and lotto hat both days, plus a costume contest for ages 16 and under. Buddy Poppies are coming to Bass Pro Shops on Veterans Day, and we need volunteers.

Post 490 and VFW Post 5619 are distributing together on Wednesday, November 11, 11 AM to 3 PM, Gulf Freeway at Exit 21 southbound. By donation only. To help, call Wendell at 713-515-8267.

This week's Post 490 Blast is out.

The rebuild cleared its first real checkpoint. Round 2 of the permit submittal went back to the City of Houston on September 10, eight days ahead of the September 18 target, and the plan review for our new 5,091 square foot meeting hall has been received by the Permitting Center. Received is not approved, but a checkpoint met early is worth saying out loud.

Plus Evening of Cuisine this Thursday at UH Clear Lake, Texian Navy Day on Saturday with 20 seats held for Post 490 and our families, and 572 renewed toward our 1,060 goal.

Twenty-five years ago this morning. Our Patriot Day edition is out.

Tomorrow, Saturday 12 September, Houston National Cemetery hosts the National Day of Service. It starts at 9:30 AM, half an hour earlier than every other cemetery in the country, and runs to 11:30. Volunteers clean headstones and care for the grounds.

Plus the Commander's Patriot Day message, the morning of September 11 told through the seven moments of silence, and the more than 7,000 service members lost in the war that followed.
