Today, we remember. 🇺🇸

We remember the lives lost on 9/11, the individuals who selflessly rushed into harm’s way to rescue those in need, the mariners who aided the evacuation, and those who answered the call of duty.

Coast Guard rescues 5 people from capsized vessel near Freeport

Bravo Zulu to Sector Houston-Galveston command center watchstanders, Station Freeport, and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, who rescued 5 people from a capsized vessel this morning 26 miles offshore near Freeport, TX.

All five people were wearing personal floatation devices (PFDs), safely recovered from the water and transported back to land. The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to ensure they have proper safety equipment, including flares, PFDs and communication devices, and to file a float plan with a friend or family member before departing.

In addition to highlighting coordination and communication between units, Lt. Cmd. Matthew Spado, the search and rescue mission coordinator said, this case “should serve as a reminder of the importance of wearing your life jacket, having proper emergency distress equipment onboard at all times, and making sure a friend of family member knows your float plan.”
