Here is the event map for the July 2nd Fireworks at Southern Gap.

The map shows the locations for food vendors, inflatables, roadblocks, and the emergency vehicle exit.

Please help us keep the emergency vehicle exit clear at all times so emergency vehicles can enter and exit safely if needed.

Parking will be available around the roundabouts and other nearby streets as long as traffic can still flow safely in both directions. Please be respectful of nearby homes, do not block driveways and follow all traffic laws and proper parking practices.

Prater Fire & Rescue Station 1 is located at:

Grundy, VA 24614

Please review the attached map for this year’s roadblock locations and fireworks launch site for the July 2nd Fireworks event at Southern Gap.

Fireworks will be best viewed from areas near Prater Fire & Rescue Station 1, the Sykes parking lot, now the VEC building, and most roads and parking lots within sight distance of the roundabout.

For everyone’s safety, please pay attention to the posted roadblocks and follow directions from emergency personnel and event staff.

We look forward to seeing everyone come out and enjoy the fireworks!

Big news for the kids!

This year’s July 2nd Fireworks at Southern Gap event will include inflatables for the kids, including a bounce house, water slide and fire truck slide.

The inflatables will be set up from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

We are excited to provide another fun activity for kids and families to enjoy before the fireworks.

We also want to take a moment to thank the donors who helped make this event possible. Events like this would not be possible without the support of our community.

A special thank you to Prater Supervisor David Rose for graciously donating this year’s fireworks.

Vendor update for our July 2nd Fireworks at Southern Gap event!
We are excited to add ’s Dawgs Hotdog Cart and Catering and W R E N ‘s to this year’s vendor list.
This brings our vendor lineup to:

Come out early, grab something to eat and enjoy the evening with the community.
Food vendors will be set up at 4:00 PM in the same location as last year on Killdeer Lane in front of Prater Fire & Rescue Station 1. Fireworks will be set off when it gets dark.

Not every rescue involves flashing lights and sirens.

Prater Fire & Rescue members were able to safely rescue a cat from a tree and return it back to solid ground.

Glad we could help this little climber!

Prater Fire & Rescue recently completed a successful training with 16 members from Prater Fire, Knox Creek Fire and Council Fire.

Crews spent 8 hours training in the rain on VES (a search and rescue technique used to quickly reach and remove trapped occupants through a window), hoseline deployment and advancement, forcible entry and ventilation. This training helped strengthen important fireground skills while also building teamwork between departments.

We would like to thank a member of the Deskins community for allowing us to use his property for this training. Support like this helps local departments train safely and better prepare to serve our communities.
