NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Monday the 1st day of June 2026 in the board of supervisors meeting room at the Buchanan County Government Center, 4447 Slate Creek Road, Grundy, VA 24614.
The purpose of that hearing will be to entertain and receive public comment on:
The proposed adoption of an Amended Ordinance entitled: “An Amended Ordinance Reapportioning and Redrawing Buchanan County’s Magisterial Districts and Precincts and establishing a Central Absentee Voter Precinct and Places for such Precincts.”
The actual proposed changes are as follows:
• The amended ordinance proposes to move and/or close the location of the polling place for #102, Voting Precinct for Blackey Voting Precinct, from its current location at Hurley High School, 6339 Hurley Road, Hurley, Virginia to #103 Trey Adkins Athletic Center 1014 D. A. Justus Road, Hurley, Virginia;
• Proposes to move and/or close the location of the polling place for #302, Voting Precinct for North Grundy Precinct from Grundy High School, 1300 Golden Wave Drive, Grundy, Virginia to #302, Riverside Elementary /Middle School, 27382 Riverside Drive, Grundy, Virginia;
• Proposes to move and/or close the location of the polling place for #301, Voting Precinct for Slate, from J.M. Bevins Head Start Building, 8668 Slate Creek Road, Grundy, Virginia to #301, J.M. Bevins Community Center, 8670, Grundy, Virginia;
• Proposed to move and/or close the location of the polling place for #405, South Grundy Voting Precinct for Grundy Town, 1003 Plaza Drive, Grundy, Virginia to #403, South Grundy/Town of Grundy, 1003 Plaza Drive, Grundy, Virginia;
• Proposed to move and/or close the location of the polling place for Voting Precinct from 14449 Dismal River Road, Pilgrims K**b, Virginia to #701, Whitewood Voting Precinct to Dismal River Rescue Road, 13228 Dismal River Road, Pilgrims K**b, Virginia.
There are no changes made due to any reapportionment of population. The changes are to precincts and polling locations for precincts due to the closing of three high schools in the county as a result of school consolidation and the closing of other schools in the County.
Any interested person is invited to appear and offer public comments. The proposed Ordinance along with a map of the new polling location is available upon request at the Buchanan County Administrator's Office on the third floor of the Buchanan County Government Center, 4447 Slate Creek Road, Grundy, Virginia.
