🚀 From infographic design to 3D printing and hands-on coding and circuitry with Makey Makey, our Summer STEM Academy students are turning imagination into innovation! 💡✨

Every project sparks creativity, builds confidence, and inspires the next generation of problem-solvers and leaders. The future is being created right here in Central Appalachia! 🌟🔬⚙️

Today was packed with innovation, creativity, and hands-on learning as our students explored the exciting world of STEM! 🌟

🎨 Students designed and created their own infographic posters centered around the theme "What I Can't Live Without", showcasing their unique interests, passions, and creative thinking.

🖨️ Using cutting-edge technology, students designed and printed their very own custom 3D keychains, bringing their digital creations to life right before their eyes!

⚡💻 Our future innovators also dove into the fascinating world of electronic circuitry and computer programming with our award-winning 🏆 Makey Makey technology, discovering how creativity and coding can work together to solve problems and create amazing inventions.

At Summer STEM Academy, there are no limits to imagination, innovation, and creativity! Every day is an opportunity to explore, discover, and build skills that will inspire the leaders, engineers, scientists, and creators of tomorrow. 🌎🔭🧠

A special thank you to Jeannie Presley and her amazing staff for their dedication and leadership in supporting Farm to School Programs across our elementary and middle schools in Buchanan County. 🍎🥕🚜 Their commitment is helping students connect with local agriculture, healthy foods, and hands-on learning opportunities that will benefit them for years to come.

We also want to recognize Lindsay Felty and Appalachian Sustainable Development for their continued support and partnership in strengthening our county’s Farm to School initiatives. 🌽🌻💚

🔬✨ STEM + Creativity = Amazing Learning Opportunities! ✨🎨

The Boys & Girls Club of Central Appalachia and Buchanan County Public School’s Summer STEM Academy was buzzing with excitement today at Riverview Elementary Middle School! 🚀📚

Students put their math skills to work through fun, hands-on Cricut learning activities that combined creativity, technology, and STEM concepts in exciting new ways. 🧮✂️💡 From measuring and designing to problem-solving and creating, participants experienced firsthand how STEM skills can be applied in real-world projects.

One of the highlights of the day was watching students bring their own ideas to life! 🎉👕 Many designed original artwork and transformed their creations into custom shirts and personalized name tags. Seeing their creativity shine while building confidence in STEM was truly inspiring! 🌟

Thanks to our 🤘 Rock Star ⭐️ teachers, Kayla Cantrell, Michelle Baker, Staci Griffey, and the faculty and staff at Riverview Elementary Middle School for dedicating their summer to higher learning and STEM Education for Buchanan County youth! 🙏 And much appreciation for our partnership with Buchanan County Public Schools! It takes two flints to make a fire!!!

Okay, we’re a LOT late posting this… 😅💻 but trust us, this one was TOO GOOD not to celebrate! A crashed hard drive may have slowed us down, but nothing can dim the MAGIC that happened on stage at HEMS! 💫🔥

The Boys & Girls Club of Central Appalachia and Hurley Elementary/Middle School proudly presented Storybook Court, Full of Beans… and WOW 👏👏 what an unforgettable performance!

Let’s talk about these STUDENTS 🌟🎬
The talent, the confidence, the creativity… absolutely NEXT LEVEL! 💥 Every line delivered, every character brought to life, every moment on stage had the audience smiling, laughing, and cheering! 😂🎉

And can we give a HUGE shoutout to the incredible HEMS families and community?! 🙌❤️
From jaw-dropping sets 🏰🎨 to AMAZING costumes 🧵👑, y’all showed up and showed OUT! That’s what community pride looks like in Central Appalachia 💙

🎭✨ WHAT A SHOW, COUNCIL! ✨🎭

The stage was 🔥 LAST WEEK as the Boys & Girls Club of Central Appalachia and Council Elementary/Middle School Drama Club brought The Brementown Musicians to life… and WOW, did they deliver! 👏👏

When Noah Barton and Jessica Compton take the director’s chair, you already know you’re in for BIG laughs 😂🎬 and unforgettable moments on stage! Our talented student actors absolutely SHINED 🌟, bringing energy, confidence, and pure joy to every scene.

Let’s hear it for the AMAZING parents, too 🙌❤️, who went all out to create incredible props and costumes 🎨🧵. You helped transform the stage into something truly magical! And yes… the house was PACKED! 🏟️🔥

Huge shoutout to Buchanan County Public Schools, Principal Joan Hart, Assistant Directors Kevin Stanley and Kenna Blankenship 👏, Props & Makeup by BGCCA's first-ever student ambassador, Katy Wampler 💄🎨, and of course, the one and only Rita Breeding 💙, our phenomenal BGCCA Unit Director who continues to uplift and inspire our kids every single day!

You're only as good as the people who work for you. They are why we are NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!! No amount of thanks could justify the endless hours and dedication our coaches give our students at Boys & Girls Club of Central Appalachia/Buchanan County Public Schools' robotics and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program.

Much gratitude and respect go out to Kayla Cantrell, Michelle Baker, Debbie Owens, and Dennis Blankenship. Your leadership and guidance got us from meager beginnings to where we are today. Did I mention we were NATIONAL CHAMPIONS? Imagine what we could be if STEAM were a full-time curriculum in BCPS, rather than an after-school program!

We would be remiss if I failed to mention our alliance partners at Chucky Doak High School in Tusculum, Tennessee. They have picked us as their alliance partners at UVA Wise and ETSU and our partnership has led to success. We appreciate you Chucky Doak Black Knights!

💡🚀 What an incredible weekend made possible by some truly dedicated partners!

Boys & Girls Club of Central Appalachia sends a huge thank you to Heather Askea and her amazing team at UVA Wise’s STREAMWISE, along with the outstanding staff at STREAMWORKS. Together, they’re doing the real work, showing up, pouring their hard work and dedication into our kids'futures, and making STEM come alive in ways that truly matter. 👏

These are the folks on the front lines of opportunity. The ones investing their time, energy, and effort to make sure young people in our region are not just learning, but preparing for real futures. From hands-on experiences to meaningful mentorship, they’re helping build confidence, spark curiosity, and open doors to careers that once felt out of reach. 🔧📡✨

This is what workforce development looks like when it’s done right, rooted in community, driven by passion, and focused on the next generation. 🌟
