Recent tragedies in our community have left many grieving, searching for answers, and trying to make sense of heartbreaking circumstances. These moments remind us of the profound and lasting impact domestic abuse can have on individuals, families, and entire communities. Behind every headline are real people, grieving loved ones, and pain that extends far beyond what we may ever see or understand.

Our hearts are with everyone impacted by these devastating events. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones who are grieving, and we recognize the first responders who respond to these difficult and often traumatic circumstances. Their work carries an emotional weight that is not always visible, and we are grateful for their service and commitment to our community.

In moments like these, how we respond matters. As a community, we have a shared responsibility to support those who are hurting, approach difficult conversations with care, recognize the complexities of domestic abuse, and work together to create safer environments for everyone.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, support is available. Safe Harbor’s 24/7 Helpline offers confidential support, resources, and space to explore options without judgment.

We cannot undo tragedy, but we can choose compassion, support one another through difficult moments, and turn our collective concern into meaningful action.

Domestic abuse is more common than many people realize, and it doesn’t always leave visible scars. It can be physical, emotional, sexual, financial, or digital.

We can all make a difference by listening without judgment, believing survivors, and helping connect them with support.

Showing up in purple for a cause that matters!

Our Safe Harbor team is wearing purple in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month to stand with survivors, raise awareness, and remind our community that no one has to face domestic abuse alone.

We also took time that day to complete our annual staff training, strengthening our knowledge and skills in domestic abuse, confidentiality, medical safety, de-escalation, Narcan, and preventing and managing burnout in our field. We believe that caring for our community starts with continuing to learn, grow, and care for one another, too.

Together, we’re committed to supporting survivors, creating safer spaces, and building a stronger, more compassionate community.

Thank you to all of our speakers for the day: Greenville County Sheriff

What is Safe Harbor, who do we serve, and why is our work so important?

At Safe Harbor, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and empowered. Through our services, we work to support survivors of domestic abuse and their children by providing resources, advocacy, and support as they navigate their paths toward safety and healing.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we’re going back to the basics to share who we are, what we do, and how our work makes a difference in our community.

Because domestic violence is more than a statistic, behind every number is a person who deserves support, a future free from abuse, and the opportunity to rebuild.
