"Across Pennsylvania, an important criminal justice development is underway as the state responds to a recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision. On March 26 of this year, the court ruled that mandatory life-without-parole sentences for second-degree murder, also known as felony murder, are unconstitutional when imposed without considering an individual’s level of culpability. This ruling affects more than 1,100 people currently serving such sentences statewide, including 34 convicted felons in York and Adams counties."

Today I learned more about the York County Libraries System’s two new Library Delivery Vans used for interlibrary loans and more. The old vans were breaking down and now, Greg and Dave are delivering books throughout the county with ease in these new vans. The purchase of these vans was made possible, in part, through gaming revenues distributed by the Local Share Account (LSA) grant program. These vans open reader access to thousands of books across the county. If you can’t find the book at Guthrie, maybe Martin or Gladfelter have it.

Our libraries inspire literacy and learning and serve as welcoming spaces for community members to gather. The System is entering into its Literacy for Change campaign with reading challenges and special events throughout the county. Many local business have stepped up to partner with YCLS to bring awareness to the community about all that our libraries have to offer. Kate’s Kudos to Gerard Daniel Worldwide for investing $2.1 million in expanding its wire cloth and mesh product manufacturing operations right here in Hanover. The Commonwealth is supporting the project with a $200,000 Pennsylvania First grant.

This expansion will create 35 new jobs over the next five years, retain 107 full-time positions, strengthen local manufacturing with key facility upgrades, and boost Pennsylvania’s growing reputation as a competitive, business-friendly state.

Thank you, Gerhard Daniel Worldwide, for choosing Pennsylvania and our Hanover community!

08/28/2026

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is warning veterans and their spouses about a postcard promising extra monthly benefits. But the “Veterans Savings Program” mentioned in the postcard doesn’t actually exist. It’s just a scammer phishing for personal or financial information.

While the postcard might list the state you’re living in and mention real VA benefits like CHAMPVA or TRICARE For Life, those programs are just being mentioned in an effort to make the mailing look legitimate and trick veterans into sharing personal information like your Social Security number or bank account details.

If you get a postcard like this:
• Don’t respond. Legitimate VA communications will not pressure you to respond immediately or give sensitive information over the phone.
• Contact the VA directly if you have questions about your benefits. Always use a number you know is real, never the one on the postcard. Start with the VA Benefits Hotline at 1-800-827-1000.
• Spread the word. Scammers typically don’t just contact one person. Sharing this advice can help others in your community spot and avoid the scam. Sign up for email updates to get the latest on scams like this one at www.MilitaryConsumer.gov.

If you spot this or another VA benefits scam, report it to the FTC at www.ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to the VA at www.VSAFE.gov or 1-833-38V-SAFE.
