It is with great sadness that the officers and membership of the Glen Rock Hose & Ladder Co. announce the passing of Chief Emeritus Roland “Gene” Anstine.

Gene joined the department in 1980. He quickly made an impact, becoming a line officer within two years. Gene served as 2nd Asst. Chief from 1985 to 1987, 1st Asst. Chief in 1988 and 1989, and served as Chief of the Department from 1990 to 2003 and again from 2011 to 2014. Chief Anstine was awarded the distinction of Life Member in 1998.

Gene’s time and leadership with the department has played a huge role in our operation and how we function today, shaping operational policies, overseeing the 1997 fire house expansion and finding multiple funding avenues through grants for necessary equipment.

At this time, services are being finalized and will be announced at a later time.

At 4:55 this morning, station 59 and our mutual aid partners were alerted to the 100 block of Hanover St. in Glen Rock Borough for a structure fire. Units arrived to find an outbuilding to the rear of the dispatched address well involved with fire.

Engine 59-1 took a position on Cottage Ave while Rescue 59 took a position on Hanover street, which provided supression lines to both the front and back of the structure. An exposure residence on Cottage Ave did receive minor damage from the fire, but was quickly controlled by personnel. Aiding apparatus were slightly hampered in their response due to the snowfall.

While units operating on this incident, Engine 13-2 from Southern Area Fire and Emergency Rescue - SAFER was transferred to our quarters to provide continued cover.

🎄 Merry Christmas from Glen Rock Hose & Ladder Co!

On behalf of the officers and members of the Glen Rock Hose & Ladder Co., we want to wish our neighbors and friends a very Merry Christmas! We are proud to serve this community, and our wish for you today is a day filled with joy, family, and—most importantly—safety.

While you’re enjoying the festivities, please keep these Holiday Fire Safety Tips in mind to keep your home and loved ones protected:

• Water Your Tree: If you have a real Christmas tree, check the water level daily. A dry tree can be fully engulfed in flames in seconds.
• Blow Out the Candles: Never leave burning candles unattended. Make sure they are on stable surfaces and far away from curtains or decorations.
• Check Your Lights: Inspect holiday lights for frayed wires or loose connections. Always turn off all indoor and outdoor electrical decorations before going to bed or leaving the house.
• Space Heater Safety: Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn (bedding, furniture, paper). Always plug them directly into a wall outlet, never a power strip.
• Kitchen Awareness: Cooking is the leading cause of home fires. Stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, or boiling food.

Have a safe and wonderful holiday! 🚒✨
