Masonic First Responder Award 🏆

Congratulations to Captain Frank Lopez and Engineer Houston Jensen, who have been selected by Masonic Prometheus Lodge 87 for its 2026 First Responder Award.

The award typically recognizes one police officer, one firefighter, and one EMS member each year. This year, the Lodge chose to honor two firefighters.

While off duty in August, Captain Lopez and Engineer Jensen stopped at a motorcycle crash and provided medical care and quick fire suppression. Their decision to act, even when they weren’t on the clock, reflects the commitment to service that defines these two individuals.

Thank you to Masonic Prometheus Lodge 87 for this recognition, and thank you, Frank and Houston, for representing Gilbert Fire & Rescue so well.

Bingo! Fall prevention is paying off! 🎉

Gilbert Fire and Rescue had a blast playing Bingo with residents at Sky Ridge Senior Living, and yes, there were some serious competitors in that room. 😄 We came for more than just the game. We came to celebrate!

Six months ago, we brought fall prevention education to Sky Ridge. Since then, they’ve seen a decline in 911 calls. That’s a full house in our book. 🙌

Falls are the #1 reason Gilbert residents call 911, and this proves prevention works. A few small habits make a big difference: clear those walkways, remove throw rugs, and stay active.

Thank you to the Sky Ridge residents and staff for being such awesome partners. You did this, and we couldn’t be prouder!

Don’t let safety disappear this Halloween, Gilbert! 🎃✨

A few simple steps can help keep your neighborhood safe.

Costumes 🚨
• Choose bright or reflective costumes
• Use face paint instead of vision‑blocking masks
• Pick flame‑resistant materials
• Avoid long/baggy outfits that cause tripping

Trick‑or‑Treating 🚨
• Stick to well-lit neighborhoods and use sidewalks
• Young children should be with a parent or responsible adult
• Equip kids with flashlights, glow sticks, or reflective gear
• Inspect all candy — toss anything unwrapped, damaged, or suspicious
• Keep pets safely indoors with ID tags

Drivers: Stay Alert 🚨
• Slow down in residential areas
• Watch for kids crossing streets
• Back out of driveways carefully
• Never drive under the influence

Fall Safety Enforcement 🚨
Gilbert PD will continue efforts focused on underage drinking, curfew violations, and unruly gatherings.
➡️ What’s an “unruly gathering”?
Any party that disturbs the peace. Responsible parties can include owners, tenants, parents/guardians, and anyone aware of the event.

Teen Safety 🚨
• Know where your teen is, who they’re with, and what they’re doing
• Encourage open conversations about safety
• Remind teens: Report threats or violence — don’t repost them

To report unsafe gatherings or disturbances, call Gilbert PD at 480-503-6500 or dial 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Our recruits put teamwork and technique into action at the Southwest Gas training facility! 🔥

They practiced using dry chemical extinguishers on gas-fed fires and worked together with fog nozzles to create a protective water barrier.

Thank you to Southwest Gas for providing valuable hands-on training that helps prepare our recruits for the challenges they’ll face in the field!

Fireground Survival complete 🔥

Recruits worked through “Save Your Own” training, focusing on the skills needed when firefighters become trapped, disoriented, or separated in dangerous conditions.

Through limited visibility, entanglement, confined-space movement, and MAYDAY scenarios, they were challenged to stay calm, problem solve, and rely on their training.

This training builds the confidence and decision-making skills needed to stay safe, help one another, and continue serving the community as conditions change.

It’s not every day we get a call like this. 🦢

This morning, a Gilbert neighbor spotted a Great Egret stuck in a backyard tree and let the homeowner know, who was out of town. She called us, and our crews from Station 3 and Station 7 responded.

The tree hung over the water, which made the rescue tricky. Our crew got the egret down safely and found it was tangled in fishing line. We turned it over to animal rescue, and it is now being cared for at a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Whatever the call, Gilbert Fire and Rescue is ready to serve.

Charge into Fire Safety this Fire Prevention Week! 🔋

Lithium-ion batteries power more of our daily lives than ever, from e-bikes and scooters to the systems that keep our homes running. They make life easier, but a little extra care goes a long way toward keeping your family and home safe.

Swipe through for simple tips, and if you have a home battery system, take a minute to register it so our crews know what they're walking into if a fire ever happens.

Hazmat scene from above.

Around 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 5, our crews were dispatched to a reported commercial fire near McQueen and Guadalupe Roads. First-arriving units saw smoke and quickly upgraded the response to a working fire. After further investigation and a conversation with the reporting party, crews determined the situation was something different: a chemical mixture was producing a v***r cloud. Command quickly transitioned the incident to a hazardous materials call.

Drone footage gave crews an overhead perspective that was critical to assessing the incident. Hazmat teams applied water to suppress the cloud and had the spill contained in roughly an hour and a half. No evacuations were necessary, and no injuries were reported.

Thank you to our automatic aid partners, Phoenix Fire and Mesa Fire, for assisting with this incident.

Behind every car fire call is a rep just like this one. 🔥

Recruit Class 26-02 took on a vehicle fire prop, pulling a hose line and working together to extinguish the fire. Reps like this build the skills they'll need when it counts.

This is how the Gilbert Regional Academy prepares the next generation to protect our community.
