Please break down your cardboard. 😀

Seriously. It makes a bigger difference than you think.

Breaking down boxes saves space in your recycling bin, ensures your bin empties completely, and can even prevent fire hazards. 🔥

Loose cardboard can get caught on the truck’s exhaust during collection, especially when bins are overfilled or boxes stick out the top.

A few extra seconds at home helps keep our drivers, equipment, and community safer. ♻️

Not everything belongs in the trash. 🙃

Earlier this morning, a fire started in the back of a Gilbert garbage truck. Thanks to the quick actions of the operator and a rapid response from Gilbert Fire and Rescue, no injuries were reported and the truck was saved.

Unfortunately, incidents like this happen more often than people realize. While the exact cause of today’s fire is unknown, fires in garbage trucks are often caused by hazardous materials or batteries being thrown in the trash and igniting when compacted.

Please keep these items out of your trash and recycling containers:

• All batteries
• Cooking oil
• Pool chemicals
• E-waste
• Household cleaners
• Paint
• Auto fluids
• Propane tanks
• Other hazardous materials

Instead, bring them to Gilbert’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility for safe disposal: gilbertaz.gov/HHW

Behind every trash pickup is a dedicated crew working to keep Gilbert clean and safe. This Public Works Week, help us protect them by properly disposing of hazardous materials. 🙏

Water doesn't just appear at the tap. 💧

This National Public Works Week, we’re spotlighting the North Water Treatment Plant Reconstruction project, a major investment in Gilbert’s long-term water reliability that is now more than halfway complete.

The facility is expected to begin coming online for testing later this year, with final completion anticipated in Winter 2028.

When reconstruction is completed, Gilbert's upgraded North Water Treatment Plant will:

• Provide more than 70% of Gilbert's available water supply
• Increase production from 45 million to 60 million gallons per day
• Increase service capacity from 144,000 to 250,000 residents
• Meet or exceed local and national water standards
• Reduce Gilbert's utilization of non-renewable water resources
• Support Gilbert's projected population build-out
• Provide a 50+ year service life
• Be better equipped to address and adapt to significant water quality challenges

Your water bill directly helps invest in these improvements, ensuring Gilbert's water future for generations to come.
