Every year in October, Freeport Fire does Fire Prevention. We go to all the schools except for the Jr. and Sr. High schools to teach kids from 3 years old through 5th grade. This year we did the smoke house and taught children to get low in smoke, have an escape plan at home, have a meeting spot, and how to Stop, Drop, and Roll. We attended 12 different schools and locations, and taught approximately 2400 students this year. Fire crews do this while on duty, responding to calls, and still continuing to train. We would like to thank everyone for inviting Freeport Fire into your classrooms. We will see you next year!!!

A beautiful day outside to be training!

C-shift took the opportunity between calls to get outside and get to it working with the Tower and on ladder placement (among other things).

Thank you to Lt. Brennan for putting together training today!

At 3:27pm, Freeport Fire Department B-shift members were dispatched to Riverside Drive for a report of a vehicle that had struck a building.

On arrival, and once it was determined there were no serious injuries, firefighters on scene secured the gas and electric utilities, contacted the City of Freeport Building Inspector for evaluation of the structures stability, and assisted in the removal of the vehicle.

The scene was then released to the building and business owners.

Yesterday, members of Freeport Fire Department (as part of the MABAS Division 17 Hazardous Materials Team) participated in a validation exercise.

This exercise tests the members on their ability to work as a team with other Divisions to mitigate the effects of Hazardous Materials incidents.

The MABAS Division members will then use this test as a tool to continually improve their skills and to be always at the ready for any incident, large or small.

Well done gentlemen!
