A Night of Recognition and New Beginnings for the Franklin Police Department

Last night was a special evening for the Franklin Police Department as we gathered at the Franklin Town Council meeting to recognize the retirement of Chief Thomas “TJ” Lynch and celebrate the swearing-in of our new Chief of Police and Deputy Chief of Police.

After more than 30 years of dedicated service to the Town of Franklin, Chief Lynch is retiring, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, commitment, and service to our community. His many accomplishments and years of dedication were recognized by members of the Town Council and State Representative Jeff Roy. We thank Chief Lynch for his outstanding service and wish him all the best in this next chapter.

Town Clerk Nancy Danello also officially swore in James West as Chief of Police. Chief West has served the Town of Franklin for more than 25 years, most recently as Deputy Chief of Police. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional dedication to the department and the community. Among his many accomplishments, Chief West is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy. Congratulations, Chief West, on this well-deserved appointment!

Additionally, Detective Sergeant Eric Copeland was sworn in as the new Deputy Chief of Police. Deputy Chief Copeland’s career with the Franklin Police Department spans multiple decades and includes service in a variety of roles, beginning as a parking attendant dispatcher before becoming a police officer, detective, sergeant, and now Deputy Chief.

Beyond his law enforcement responsibilities, Deputy Chief Copeland has been a driving force behind many of the department’s community service initiatives. His dedication has helped make beloved traditions, including our annual Halloween party and holiday toy drive, successful year after year. Through these efforts, he has played an instrumental role in helping ensure that thousands of local families and children experience the joy and support of the holiday season.

As we thank Chief Lynch for his years of leadership and service, we also congratulate Chief West and Deputy Chief Copeland on their new roles. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to the continued success of the Franklin Police Department under their leadership.

Congratulations to all three on this important milestone in the history of the Franklin Police Department!

🎃 WHAT A DAY! 🎃

This year’s Halloween Party could not have gone better! We welcomed thousands of people to the Franklin Police Department for a day full of Halloween fun!

We were proud to open early for the Franklin Special Education Parent Advisory Council, giving children the opportunity to enjoy the festivities in a calmer environment.

We were busy nonstop until 5 p.m. and even ran out of candy and food! We’d call that a success!

A HUGE thank-you to our police department volunteers and their families, the incredible volunteers from Franklin High School and Middle School, and all our sponsors and donors who made this event possible.

Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us. We’re so grateful for this community and can’t wait to do it again next year!
