Parent Memos: Week of September 7th
Reminders:
-No one should be in the car rider line in the morning until 7:45 and in the afternoon until 3:10. Please be there by 3:25 to pick up. Our neighbors are having trouble entering and exiting their driveways so PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES! Please!
The powerful word we are learning this week is Reasoning. Reasoning means to form conclusions, make judgements, or inferences from facts
Here are some real-life and classroom examples students can understand:
📖 Reading: A student reads that a character is shivering and wearing a coat. The student uses those clues to reason that the character is cold.
🧩 Solving a puzzle: A student notices that a puzzle piece has straight edges. They can reason that it probably belongs on the outside of the puzzle.
🌧️ Real life: A student sees dark clouds, hears thunder, and feels strong wind. They can reason that a storm may be coming.
🍎 Math: A student has 5 apples and gives 2 away. The student can reason that 3 apples are left.
🐾 Science: A student sees animal footprints in the mud. They can use the size and shape of the prints to reason what animal may have made them.
🏫 At school: A student notices that everyone is lining up and the teacher has her keys. The student can reason that the class is probably getting ready to leave the classroom.
“When you use reasoning, you look at the clues, think about what you know, and use your brain to figure something out.”
Example:
Clues: The sidewalk is wet. People are carrying umbrellas. The sky is gray.
What I know: Sidewalks get wet when it rains. People use umbrellas when it rains.
My reasoning: It probably rained or is raining.
Predict vs. Reasoning
A simple way to help students see the difference:
Predict: What do I think will happen next?
Reasoning: How did I use clues and what I know to figure something out?
Example:
“I predict that the boy will get wet because he is outside without an umbrella.”
“I am using reasoning because I see that it is raining and I know people get wet when they are outside in the rain.”

-Student care money is due--This is only for those that attend student care.
-Progress Reports go home
-A note will go home today about our St. Jude Days
-Those that attended Family night your child will go home with a paper about the free dress day they earned.
Wednesday, September 9th:
-Signed papers go home every Wednesday
-4H Club paperwork and money due---This is for 4th and 5th grade students that want to join 4-H
-District St Jude Day $2.00 to wear free dress
Thursday, September 10th:
-Free dress for attending Family Math Night (student must have coupon that went out Tuesday)
Friday, September 11th:
-Grandparent’s visit 9:00-9:45-Grandparent can park on either side of school. Please help out the grandparents and tell them the teacher’s name, grade, and if there is a theme flag for them to look for. Note: This is just for grandparents. Everyone can visit for HOCO open house on Friday, October 2nd from 9:00-10:30.
-Patriot’s Day – dress head to toe in red, white and blue
-Spirit shirts worn by students on Fridays must come from Delcambre Elementary.

October 2nd: Homecoming: Open house 9:00-10:30 Students can dress head to toe in orange and black
October 9th: 1st 9 weeks ends
October 9th: PBIS activity-25 paws to attend-Scavenger hunt
October 12th-13th: Fall break-no school
October 14th: 2nd 9 weeks begins
October 19th: Report card Handout
October 22nd: Pre-K Family Night 5:30 in the pre-k classrooms-Students that attend will get a free pajama day and bonus points.
October 23rd: AR points END for the AR Glow bingo. Students had 46 days to earn the following points to attend our AR Glow Bingo. 1st grade-6 points; 2nd & 3rd grade-8 points; 4th & 5th grade-10 points
October 26th: AR begin for the Mardi Gras Parade. Students will have 52 days to earn the following points to participate in the Mardi Gras Parade. 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade-10 points; 4th & 5th grade-12 points
Drug Free Week October 26th-October 30th:
October 26th: Level Up. Be Drug Free: Students can dress as our theme-Board game/video game-no mask or face paint
October 27th: Hide from drugs: wear black/camo
October 28th: United we Stand for a Drug Free Land: Wear red, white, and blue head to toe
October 29th: I am unique, I am drug free: Dress as the first letter of your FIRST name----example Jodi-jogger
October 30th: Scare away drugs: wear a Halloween shirt/jeans or dress head to toe in orange and black
November 3rd: Election Day-school closed
November 12th: Progress reports go home
November 18th: Blood drive at DES from 12:30-6---Students who get someone to give blood in their name get pizza and a free dress day
November 20th: Fall shirt and jeans
November 23rd-November 27th: Thanksgiving holiday
Week of November 30th: DES 4-H food drive
December 14th-16th: Santa's Workshop
December 18th: 2nd 9 weeks ends
December 18th: PBIS winterfest-25 paws to attend
December 21st-January 1st-Christmas and New Year's Holiday
January 4th: PD day for staff-students off
January 5th: 3rd 9 weeks begins
January 7th: Parent/Teacher conferences 3:45-6:00
January 18th: Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday-school closed
January 25th: 100th day of school for 1st-5th grade-students can wear a 100th day theme shirt or dress like they are 100 years old
January 28th: 100th day of school for Kindergarten and Pre-K-students can wear a 100th day theme shirt or dress like they are 100 years old
January 29th: AR points END for the Mardi Gras Parade. Students had 52 days to earn the following points to participate in the Mardi Gras Parade. 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade-10 points; 4th & 5th grade-12 points
February 1st: AR begin for the AR bowling field trip. Students will have 60 days to earn the following points to participate in the AR bowling field trip. All grades 15 points
February 4th: progress reports go home
February 5th: AR Mardi Gras parade-
February 8th-12th: Mardi Gras Holiday
February 15th: Happy Valentine's Day-Students can wear a red, pink, Valentine shirt
February 23rd: Class group pictures
March 1st-5th Reading Week:
March 1st: Get Cozy and Read-wear pajamas no slippers
March 2nd: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss-Dress as your favorite book character
March 3rd: Dress as your favorite vocabulary word
March 4th: Twin with a friend
March 5th: Level Up Your Reading-Dress as our school theme
March 9th: Spring pictures-pictures must be pre-paid---Students can free dress for this if they pre-pay for their pictures
March 12th: PBIS Dance 25 paws to attend
March 15th: 3rd 9 weeks ends
March 16th: 4th 9 weeks begins
March 19th: Report card handout March 25th: wear an Easter shirt or pastel colored shirt
March 26th-April 2nd: Easter Holiday
April 23rd: Progress reports go home
April 23rd-May 4th: 3rd-5th grade LEAP testing will fall on 5 of these days-PLEASE do not schedule any appointments on these days
