Parent Memos: Week of November 2nd
If you have boxes of WFC from the beginning of the fundraiser, please turn in the money. We still have 59 boxes of World's Finest Chocolate left.....so if you want to sell more please come by and pick up a box. You can get boxes or turn in money in the office from 10-3 and in student care in the cafeteria until 5:30.
Reminders:
-No one should be in the car rider line in the morning until 7:45 and in the afternoon until 3:15. Please be there by 3:25 to pick up. Our neighbors are having trouble entering and exiting their driveways so PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES! Please!
-For free dress days remember that shorts and skirts must be mid thigh in length.
The powerful word we are learning this week is evidence. Evidence means facts that prove or disprove something; facts that support
⭐ Evidence = Facts, Details, or Clues That Prove It
When you use evidence, you don't just say what you think. You give information that helps show how you know your answer makes sense.
🌟 Real-Life Examples
1. Evidence that a character is sad
You read a story where a character cries, puts her head down, and says, “I miss my best friend.”
These details are evidence that the character is sad.
2. Evidence in math
Your teacher asks, “How do you know 5 × 3 = 15?”
You draw three groups of five objects and count all 15.
Your drawing and the number of objects are evidence that your answer is correct.
3. Evidence that an animal is a bird
You observe an animal with feathers, a beak, and two wings.
These characteristics are evidence that the animal is a bird.
Scientists use observable characteristics and other information to identify animals.

✏️ Student-Friendly Example
Situation: Your teacher asks, “How do you know the student in the story is responsible?”
A student might answer:
“The student is responsible because she completes her homework, turns in her assignments on time, and takes care of her school supplies.”
The details about completing homework, turning in assignments, and caring for supplies are evidence that supports the answer.
👉 That is evidence! The student used specific details to help prove her answer.
📚 Evidence in Reading and Writing
When answering questions about a story, students should use text evidence. Text evidence is information taken directly from the story or supported by details in the text.
Question: Why was the dog afraid?
STORY DETAIL
“The dog crawled under the bed when the loud thunder shook the windows.”
Answer: The dog was afraid of the storm.
Evidence: The story says the dog crawled under the bed when it heard the loud thunder.
Explanation: Hiding under the bed suggests that the dog was frightened by the storm.
Monday, November 2nd:
-AR Glow Bingo for those that made their points. 98.5% of our 1st-5th graders made their points. Great JOB! Students who earned their points received a letter with what they could wear. Only 5 out of 336 students did not make their points.
-Student care money is due--This is only for those that attend student care.

-Signed papers go home every Wednesday---please review and sign them

January 29th: AR points END for the Mardi Gras Parade. Students had 52 days to earn the following points to participate in the Mardi Gras Parade. 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade-10 points; 4th & 5th grade-12 points
February 1st: AR begins for the AR bowling field trip. Students will have 60 days to earn the following points to participate in the AR bowling field trip. All grades 15 points

March 9th: Spring pictures-pictures must be pre-paid---Students can free dress for this if they pre-pay for their pictures
