Genealogy & Preservation Center - MCMLS

Genealogy & Preservation Center - MCMLS The Genealogy and Preservation Center is located upstairs in the Conroe Central Branch. We are part of the Montgomery County Memorial Library System.

The Montgomery County Memorial Library System always provides FREE programs and never requires a fee. The Genealogy & Local History Room was established in 1976 due to the efforts of Imogene Kennedy, our first Genealogy Librarian, and the Montgomery County Genealogical Society. Our collection has since grown to be one of the largest in the state of Texas. The collection offers books, family histor

ies, local yearbooks, records, maps, microfilm, and much more. Events are regularly held on various historical and genealogical topics. In 2017, a Preservation Pad was acquired, which allows the user to digitize documents, photos, and film.

Rawr-ing into summer! ๐Ÿฆ–
We had an absolute blast hosting the kickoff for the Summer Reading Program today in the Genealogy department! This year, history came alive for our youngest researchers. The kids were excited to get hands-on with our ancient display. Through these unique preservation efforts and interactive exhibitions, we hope to inspire the younger generation to take a deeper dive into their own family histories and the world around them.

Hereโ€™s to a summer of discovery, reading, and history! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿฆ•

All library programs are free and open to the public. If any individual requires accommodation to participate in the library events, programs, or classes please contact the host library location. Please contact the host location at least 3 days before the program/event.

Join us the week before the Juneteenth to hear from Edda L. Fields-Black about COMBEE, the first detailed account of one of the most dramatic episodes of the Civil War: the June 1863 Combahee River Raid in South Carolina. There, Harriet Tubman and 150 African American Union soldiers rescued and emancipated more than 700 slaves. Dr. Fields-Blackโ€™s account is based on original documentation and written by a descendant of the enslaved men and women who fought in the raid; and, in the process, liberated themselves. https://hubs.ly/Q04hxj750
