Today, the Conroe Police Department honored Sgt. Engel, who is retiring after 32 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Conroe and the Conroe Police Department. Sgt. Engel began his career as a patrol officer on April 29, 1994. During his time on patrol, he served on the SWAT team and served in the Community Resource Unit. In 1999, he was named Officer of the Year.
On December 16, 2004, Sgt. Engel was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In this role, he served several supervisory assignments, including Patrol Sergeant, CORT Unit Sergeant, Traffic Unit Sergeant, and the Mounted Patrol Unit Sergeant. In 2018, Sgt. Engel received the Sergeant Ed Holcomb Award, presented to the supervisor of the rank of sergeant or higher.
Throughout his career, Sgt. Engel received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Service Award in 1997 and 2005, and the Meritorious Service Award in 1999.
Sgt. Engel is a true leader, one who stands by his officers when they are doing everything right and corrects them when they’re wrong, especially when it comes to grammar in reports. Sgt. Engel will truly be missed and will go down as one of the greats here at the Conroe Police Department. Thank you, from all of us, for many great years. Good luck, enjoy your retirement and time with your family, including those grandkids.
