Supportive Housing Communities We provide affordable housing to alleviate homelessness and human suffering.

The mission of Supportive Housing Communities (SHC) is to provide affordable housing to alleviate homelessness and human suffering. SHC provides permanent supportive housing for men, women and families overcoming homelessness, especially veterans and those with mental illness, substance abuse and medical or other disabling conditions. As Charlotte's first permanent supportive housing program, SHC is widely recognized in the region as an experienced leader in developing and operating permanent supportive housing. This program has been proven to be successful for ending homelessness among our most challenging population.

We are continuing our Meet Your Neighbor series by introducing you to Albert, a resident at McCreesh Place since 2018. After years of struggling, Albert found a community here at McCreesh Place that continues to support him in many different ways.

His story reminds us that overcoming challenges and finding the right community can lead to meaningful growth and lasting stability.

Follow along each week as we introduce more of our neighbors and share their incredible stories!

“The sky’s the limit.” 🌤️

Today, we share more of Sholanda’s story.

Through Supportive Housing Communities, Sholanda and her family have found the stability and security to move forward and embrace new opportunities. Her boys have been able to make friends and build connections, while Sholanda pursues her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.

A BIG thank you to our partners at Park National Bank for hosting a financial literacy and banking workshop for our neighbors at McCreesh Place! From learning more about banking to building practical financial skills, this workshop gave our residents valuable tools and knowledge to support their financial goals.

SHC is proud to recognize Park National Bank as a Good Neighbor Partner sponsor for this year's Neighbor of the Year event! Join us in celebrating all that Park National Bank has done for our community on November 5, 2026, at Covenant Presbyterian Church. 💙

We are kicking off our Meet Your Neighbor series by introducing you to Sholanda, a resilient mother and SHC neighbor who has spent the past two years building a safe and happy home for herself and her four boys.

“It’s a stepping stone in life, to be self-sufficient.”

Sholanda’s story is a reminder of how stable housing can create opportunities for families to thrive and look toward a brighter future. 💙

Today, we recognize World Homeless Day and the millions of people who experience homelessness around the world.

Every night in our community, thousands of neighbors are without a place to call home, and that number is only growing.

At SHC, we recognize that supportive housing is a best practice for serving chronically homeless individuals and families. Typically, residents who enter our programs never become homeless again. Please stand alongside us in our mission to end chronic homelessness.

Looking back at the stories we shared last year, we would like to reintroduce you to Scott’s story. After a season of depression and uncertainty, Scott found purpose at McCreesh Place and he found “a place to live again.”

His story reminds us that sometimes all someone needs is a safe place to land and a community that uplifts them.❤️

We look forward to sharing more of our neighbors’ stories in the coming weeks.

Millions of charitable dollars are already set aside in donor-advised funds, waiting to make an impact. That's what is all about: encouraging donors to take the next step and put their generosity to work for the causes they care about most.

This week, we're proud to be part of the movement at Supportive Housing Communities. If you have a donor-advised fund, consider recommending a grant to support housing stability and brighter futures for our Charlotte neighbors.

Because communities thrive when generosity moves from intention to action. ✨
