Congratulations to Troop 2513 for taking meaningful action to fight food insecurity in their community! πŸ’šπŸ₯«

Driven by a desire to make a difference, the girls chose to focus their project on raising awareness about hunger and food insecurity. They began by conducting extensive research to better understand the challenges many families face and how they could help create positive change.

The troop then developed a comprehensive community outreach campaign, creating posters, flyers, and an educational video to inform their peers and neighbors about food insecurity and its impact on local families. Through their efforts, they helped spark important conversations and encouraged others to get involved.

Taking ownership of every aspect of the project, the girls secured multiple food drive locations throughout the community, including their elementary school, J.V. Washam Elementary, local churches, gyms, and a grocery store. They also leveraged social media, coordinated porch pickups, and spent months collecting donations.

Their hard work resulted in more than five carloads of food donations, which were distributed between two local organizations, Bags of Hope, and Angels & Sparrows, helping provide meals and support to families facing food insecurity.

Through education, advocacy, leadership, and service, Troop 2513 demonstrated the power of young people to create meaningful change. Their dedication not only helped stock pantry shelves but also raised awareness of an important issue affecting their community every day. πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ’šπŸŽπŸ₯«

Congratulations to Girl Scouts, Hornets' Nest Troop 2972 for an incredible conservation and community impact project! πŸŽ‰πŸ¦πŸ’™

The girls designed, built, painted (in each school's colors), and installed 11 Carolina bluebird nesting boxes across three local elementary schools. To help educate future generations of wildlife stewards, each nesting box included information about Carolina Bluebirds and the importance of protecting their habitat.

Before installation, the troop took the initiative to create a professional video presentation for school administrators, explaining the purpose of the project, sharing fascinating bluebird facts, and outlining proper care and maintenance for the nesting boxes. Their hard work and preparation paid off, with all three schools enthusiastically approving the project.

From start to finish, the girls led every aspect of the effort. They researched Carolina Bluebird behaviors and habitat needs, sourced and purchased cedar fence planks, and learned from a Master Gardener and bluebird expert. With minimal adult assistance, they built the boxes, wrote and performed the presentation, filmed and edited the video, and personally installed each box at the schools.

To ensure a lasting impact, the troop also provided schools with detailed maintenance instructions, including how to safely clean the boxes between nesting seasons. Thanks to their dedication and leadership, these nesting boxes will provide safe homes for bluebirds and educational opportunities for students for years to come.

Way to go, GSHNC Troop 2972, for combining environmental stewardship, leadership, education, and hands on service into a Bronze Award project that will benefit both wildlife and the community for generations! πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ¦

Congratulations to these Girl Scouts for creating a Bronze Award project that fostered connection, comfort, and community for residents at a local assisted living center! πŸ’š

After identifying a low income assisted living facility serving residents ranging in age from their 30s to 80s, the girls took the initiative to learn how they could make a meaningful impact. They met with the facility director, organized an open house, and personally interviewed residents to better understand their interests, needs, and wishes.

Using what they learned, the girls measured the community space, assessed the room's design, and created a custom activity console that would both serve a purpose and complement the environment. They designed the console, purchased the materials, and handled every step of the construction process, including building, sanding, and painting it themselves.

To further support the residents, the girls created and distributed flyers requesting donations of books, games, and activity supplies. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of community supporters, they collected a variety of items that would provide entertainment, engagement, and opportunities for social connection.

The troop personally delivered and assembled the activity console, organized the donated items, and spent time with residents playing games and building relationships. To complete the project, they wrote heartfelt thank you notes to every donor who helped make their vision a reality.

Through thoughtful planning, hands on leadership, and genuine compassion, these girls created more than just an activity space. They created opportunities for connection, joy, and community that will continue to benefit residents for years to come. πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ“šπŸŽ²πŸ’š
