CWEP has made it a priority since 1898 to provide the most reliable, efficient, and cost effective utilities to our families and friends in the Carthage community, and will continue to do so.

If it felt like your air conditioner was working overtime last month, you weren’t alone! 🥵

The extended August heat pushed electricity use across Carthage to historic levels. In fact, August 2026 set a new August record for electricity delivered to our Carthage community and ranked as our third-highest month overall for energy consumed. It was also the most electricity delivered to our community in a single month since July 2012.

Periods of extreme heat create significant demand on the electric system as air conditioners and other cooling equipment work longer and harder to keep homes and businesses comfortable.

Through it all, CWEP’s electric system and local generation resources worked to help meet our community’s increased energy needs and keep Carthage powered.

That’s public power at work, right here at home!💙

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1st, construction will begin on the northeast side of the West facing parking lot at our CWEP complex parking lot as we replace the existing asphalt with concrete.

To help minimize interruptions to our customer drive-thru and maintain access throughout construction, this project will be completed in two phases. This first phase will focus on the east portion of the parking lot while keeping the west drive-thru lane and our payment kiosk accessible to customers.

𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀:

This week, our CWEP team had the opportunity to feed the CHS Softball team before their Jamboree! Team meals are one of our favorite ways to serve our community and support our Tigers, and this year is extra special with one of our very own CWEP kids, Kylinn Stonebraker daughter of CWEP Office Manager, Shawnte Wofford, taking the field for her senior season! 🥎💙

This week CWEP water crews are working alongside McKim & Creed on a water loss recovery and asset management project to help identify and narrow down areas where water may be escaping from our distribution system.

As a historic utility that has served Carthage for generations, CWEP has portions of our water infrastructure that have been in service for many years. Maintaining a system like ours takes ongoing work, monitoring and strategic investment to keep it strong and reliable. Identifying and reducing water loss is an important part of that process, helping us address issues proactively, prioritize improvements and ensure our water system continues serving our community for years to come.

Using specialized equipment and data, the McKim & Creed team is helping our water crews pinpoint potential leaks and problem areas so we can:
👉 Locate and repair hidden leaks more efficiently
👉 Prioritize water main repairs and replacements
👉 Reduce the loss of treated drinking water
👉 Make informed decisions about future infrastructure investments
👉 Maintain a reliable water system for our community

Every gallon counts! By proactively identifying where water loss is occurring, we can address problems more efficiently and continue investing in the infrastructure that delivers safe, reliable water to our customers every day.
