The Bartow History Museum offers many resources for the historian and casual visitor alike. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday. We offer special Exhibits throughout the year. Researching your family's history? Check out our Archives or give us a call. Do you know anything about the Etowah Mounds, the Cherokee or General Sherman? 🌊THIS THURSDAY: Explore North Georgia’s Forgotten Towns!🌊

Imagine watching your hometown disappear beneath a lake. Across North Georgia, the construction of dams and reservoirs submerged entire communities, leaving behind stories that many people have never heard.

This Thursday, October 29, from 7 to 8 p.m., the Bartow History Museum welcomes author and historian Lisa M. Russell for an Evening Lecture exploring the hidden history of Underwater Ghost Towns of North Georgia.

From the hundreds of families displaced by Lake Lanier to the residents who stood their ground as Lake Hartwell reshaped their surroundings, Russell brings these lost communities back into focus. She’ll also explore how falling water levels can expose remnants of places long hidden beneath the surface.

Discover the people, places, and personal stories behind North Georgia’s man-made lakes - and the history that still lies beneath them.

See traditional fiber arts come to life tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bartow History Museum in Cartersville!

As part of the Booth Western Art Museum’s West Fest 2026, members of the Etowah Valley Hand Spinning Guild and the Peachtree Spinners Guild will demonstrate the art of hand spinning wool and share traditional wool-dyeing techniques. Discover the skill, creativity, and history behind these time-honored crafts!

Make a day of it at West Fest and explore art, history, and family-friendly activities throughout Cartersville.
