🌍🧭 Exploring the World in Dr. Godwin’s 5th Grade Class! ☀️🚢
Our fifth-grade explorers have been traveling back in time to the Age of Exploration! 🌎
In Social Studies, students have been researching famous European explorers, discovering their journeys, learning about their accomplishments, and examining the challenges they faced while navigating unfamiliar lands and oceans.
But the exploration didn't stop there! 🔭☀️
In Science, students have been making exciting connections between history and science by investigating how early explorers used the Sun, shadows, and the stars to navigate the world! Students learned how the Sun's position could help sailors estimate time and determine latitude, while accurate timekeeping became essential for calculating longitude.
🧭 The Big Connection: Long before GPS, smartphones, and modern navigation systems, explorers relied on their understanding of the natural world, mathematics, and careful observations to find their way!
Through these cross-curricular learning experiences, students are discovering that science, history, geography, and mathematics work together to help us understand our world!
