Founded in 1967, The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) is an agency of the State of Maryland's Department of Commerce that plays an essential role, ensuring every person has access to the transformative power of the arts. Meet Spyros Koliavasilis!

Spyros (Montgomery County) has performed, taught, and researched traditional Greek music for over 20 years. Raised and trained in Greece, he is now a mainstay of Mid-Atlantic Greek-American communities, as well as the founder of the Mediterranean Notes Music School, where he has taught hundreds of students.

In recognition of long-term achievement in the traditional arts, Spyros received a Maryland Heritage Award in 2025 through MSAC's Maryland Traditions program.

CLOSING THIS WEEK: Applications are being accepted to serve as editors for the Presenting & Touring program, which supports a rich and artistically diverse network of professional artists and performing arts organizations through the Performing Artist Touring Roster and the Touring Grant.

Compensation is up to $400 for the full review process. The application deadline is Friday, August 21, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

CLOSING THIS WEEK: Arts Education in Maryland Schools is now accepting applications for “Learning through the Creative Process: Standards-Driven Creative Spaces.”

This professional development opportunity explores the connection between the forthcoming revised Maryland State Fine Arts Standards and the Creative Process. The course is designed specifically for teaching artists and creative educators/practitioners who work in schools.

This virtual course will be 3 Sessions on Tuesdays: September 15, 22, and 29 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

We spotted the Pride Bus in Baltimore City last week! 🚌🌈

Launched in collaboration with Maryland Department of Transportation, the bus features two artworks by Maryland artist Joan Cox. This side of the bus showcases “Love in the Shade” (2023), which captures intimate, quiet moments of connection.
