Support EMS by contacting your State Senator! https://bit.ly/44blZue

The state budget deadline is July 1. Tell your Senator to fix funding issues in the budget that are hurting EMS.

EMS agencies across Michigan are asking our Senators to ensure the budget keeps Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for EMS in-line with allowable rates and pays Michigan's EMS providers $6M owed for emergency care provided to the state's prisons.

Sign your name to this letter asking our Senators to support EMS in the state budget. https://bit.ly/44blZue

CALL TO ACTION: Tell Michigan Senators to Fix Issues That Are Hurting EMS!

Two changes are needed in the state budget:
1. Updating budget boilerplate to update Medicaid reimbursement at the allowable rate and ensure that budget boilerplate language keeps the Medicaid rates in line with the respective annual Medicare increases.
2. Allocating funds to finally pay providers for service to Michigan’s prisons in 2023 and 2024 that left nearly $6 million owed to providers by the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Show your support by sending a letter to your Senator. We've made it super easy! Click the link to get started: https://bit.ly/44blZue

HVA's Special Pathogens Response Team took part in a training exercise with Henry Ford Health Detroit, University of Michigan Health-Sparrow, Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals, Life EMS Ambulance, and Mobile Medical Response. The purpose of the exercise was to run through the long-distance transport of a highly-infectious patient from one healthcare facility to another, giving all healthcare providers involved a chance to collaborate, develop communications plans, and practice infectious control procedures.

While viruses that require this level of patient isolation rarely enter the US, having a strong plan of action in place is vital for proper virus containment and the safety of the patient and healthcare providers should the need ever arise.

The emergency crews started in Detroit, transferred the mock patient in Lansing, and ended in Grand Rapids at Corewell Health, one of just 13 facilities in the country equipped to treat patients with special pathogens.

The first week of June is CPR and AED awareness week! πŸ™ŒπŸ’“

You have the ability to save a life if someone goes into cardiac arrest. Hands-Only CPR takes two simple steps:
1. Call 9-1-1
2. Press hard and fast in the center of the victim's chest until first responders arrive. Keep your compressions around 120 beats per minute - the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive."

When a person has a cardiac arrest, their survival depends on immediate CPR from someone around them. Take 90 seconds to learn Hands-Only CPR today!

It is National CPR and AED Awareness Week. With just your hands and quick thinking, you could save a life.

A huge shout out to the best Ops Support Team Lead around - Austin! πŸ™Œ Austin is graciously grilling burgers and dogs for our hungry crews today.

Aside from pitching in during EMS Week meals, Austin is always there to lend a hand, keeps our behind the scenes operations running smoothly and leads a team of great resupply techs - making sure our ambulances are well-stocked and the crews have everything they need to respond to emergencies.

Happy EMS Week, Austin, and thank you for being part of the HVA team! πŸ™ŒπŸš‘πŸ™Œ
