California cannot solve its housing crisis without building and preserving homes families can afford to own. CalHome is the state’s only program dedicated to affordable homeownership production and preservation. It helps nonprofit developers like Habitat create permanently affordable ownership opportunities for working families across California.

As final budget negotiations continue, state leaders need to hear that affordable homeownership must be part of California’s housing strategy.
Down payment assistance alone is not enough. We need programs that actually increase the supply of affordable homes for purchase.

Take action today and urge the Governor and Legislature to include $500 million for CalHome in the final 2026–27 State Budget.

We want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Habitat for Humanity California for their incredible generosity.

Thanks to their $50,000 Connecting Hometowns grant, we were able to purchase materials and put our hands and hearts to work building the infrastructure for our brand-new neighborhood community garden.

This shared green space is a foundational piece of the Eureka Oaks development in Angels Camp—which stands as the largest affordable housing project in California Habitat history.

When regional partners and local hands align, we don't just build walls—we build futures.

Living in a beautiful, rural community like Calaveras County means we depend on our vehicles to get to work, run errands, and keep our families connected. But over time, old, unused cars, trucks, or trailers can stack up on our land—leaving many of us wondering how to dispose of them properly without the headache of fixing them up or dealing with the selling process.

Through Habitat’s Cars for Homes program, we make letting go of old vehicles completely hassle-free. As long as the vehicle has four inflated tires, a tow driver will pick it up for free—usually within 1 to 3 business days.

Instead of sitting in your backyard, your old vehicle is responsibly recycled, and the proceeds stay right here in Calaveras County to fund affordable housing opportunities for local families.

A home a family can afford to own creates more than shelter. It creates stability for children, roots in a community, and the opportunity to build a stronger financial future. That is what CalHome helps make possible.

As California enters the final stage of state budget negotiations, we need state leaders to invest in affordable homeownership. CalHome helps nonprofits like Habitat build and preserve homes that working families can actually afford. But without renewed funding, projects across the state are at risk.

Help us protect affordable homeownership opportunities for California families.
Urge the Governor and Legislature to include $500 million for CalHome in the final state budget.

Building a community is definitely not as easy as snapping your fingers...

And if you ask our sore muscles from today, they’d absolutely agree! In real life, turning dirt into a thriving neighborhood takes planning, heavy lifting, and a whole lot of sweat.

Yet, watching our incredible Pacific Gas and Electric Company volunteers stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our future homeowners at Eureka Oaks today made it look almost that easy.

In a hot 90F sun, this crew didn't just build a brand-new community garden for our upcoming 107-home development in Angels Camp—they ran the day with absolute synchronization & organization.

Fences went up, planter boxes were assembled, and irrigation lines were laid seamlessly.

It turns out that while a single finger snap can’t magically build a neighborhood, bringing an amazing community together can make the impossible happen faster & better.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers!

California’s budget negotiations are in the final stretch and affordable homeownership funding is on the line. With the Governor’s May Revise released, the Administration and Legislature are now making final decisions about what will be included in the 2026–27 State Budget. We need to make sure CalHome is part of it.

CalHome is California’s only state program dedicated to the production and preservation of affordable homes for ownership. Without renewed funding, shovel-ready affordable homeownership projects across the state could stall.

Take action today and urge state leaders to include $500 million for CalHome in the final budget ➡
