A home a family can afford to own creates more than shelter. It creates stability for children, roots in a community, and the opportunity to build a stronger financial future.

That is what CalHome helps make possible.
As California enters the final stage of state budget negotiations, we need state leaders to invest in affordable homeownership. CalHome helps nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity Calaveras build and preserve homes that working families can actually afford. But without renewed funding, projects across the state are at risk.

We can't celebrate National Homeownership Month without shining a massive spotlight on our Eureka Oaks development in Angels Camp. As the single largest affordable housing development in California Habitat history, this historic project is changing our regional landscape. At our recent corporate Build Day with PG&E, we were honored to have Amanda Folendorf Calaveras County Supervisor D4 share her deep connection to the project. She spoke passionately about the emotional journey of watching this "pie-in-the-sky dream" finally come to fruition over the last decade through the combined strength of utility districts, city-county alignment, and private partnerships.

As she beautifully noted during the build:

"This development specifically represents more than just housing units. It represents the stability for families, workforce retention, economic opportunity, and long-term investment, not just here in the city, but as a county as a whole."

Once completed, Eureka Oaks will provide a secure, sustainable neighborhood for 107 local, income-qualified families. From the physical structures to the shared community garden built that day, this development is a masterclass in what happens when corporate philanthropy, grassroots volunteer power, and local government decide to work together toward something bigger than themselves.
