We are thrilled to announce that Jessy, a special education teacher with 22 years of experience from Chile, will be joining our district soon. Jessy, along with her husband and daughter, will be relocating to our community, and we want to ensure they receive a warm welcome.

To help with their transition, we are seeking assistance in finding either a long-term rental or temporary housing for them as they get settled. If you know of any available accommodations, please reach out to Vanessa Plascencia, a local Realtor who is helping us find the perfect place for Jessy and her family.

Our names are Vanessa Plascencia and Cecilia Vidales. We represent the
District English Language Advisory Committee. Our purpose is to assist
students in our district who have learned or are learning English as a
second language to achieve and meet their highest potential. This year
marks the first year of what we believe will come to be a long-standing
tradition for our eighth graders of MTUESD.

***ESPAÑOL***

The Award we are presenting is the Sylvia Mendez Award of Achievement
As an 8-year-old little girl, Sylvia Mendez, was the center point of a
landmark case in California, Her parents fought for desegregation in the
mid-1940s that paved a way for the Brown VS the Topeka Board of
Education in 1954 ending segregation and allowing all students the right to
be educated in public schools.

Despite not having English as their first language, the following two
students excelled in their learning. Often times this meant having to
alternate between their native language and English as their second
language.

An ELAC award has been created for 2 students with the top GPA who performed
the highest of the students qualifying as English Language Learners in their
eighth grade year
This award consists $ 100 Bret harte bucks and a $30 Day-O gift card.

On behalf of Mark Twain ELAC families, we would like to Thank Ms. Paula Wyant
for her unconditional support and leadership throughout these 2 years. Without Ms. Paula, we would not be here. We would also like to Thank Mark Twain teachers and families of Mark Twain who assisted to the different events in support of this committee

nuestros nombres son Vanessa Plascencia y Cecilia Vidales. Nosotros representamos el Comité Asesor de Padres de Aprendices de Inglés del Distrito. Nuestro propósito es ayudar estudiantes en nuestro distrito que han aprendido o están aprendiendo inglés como segundo idioma para lograr y alcanzar su máximo potencial

Este ano markaria el primer ano de una tradicion para los graduados del octavo grado en la escuela Mark Twain. Se otorgara un reconocimiento que tiene por nombre Sylvia Mendez. Una nina de 8 anos que su caso fue el centro de atencion y punto crucial que marko un cambio en California. Sus padres lucharon por la igualdad en las escuelas publicas. En 1954 se logro un acuerdo que daria derechos a todos los estudiantes en las escuelas publicas.

Un premio fue creado al nombre de Sylvia Mendez para 2 estudiantes con las mas altas calificaciones academicas durante el octavo grado en Mark Twain. Este premio consiste de una tarjeta de $100 a la tienda de Brete Harte, y 30 dolares a Day O.

El primer premio es para VALENTINA PALOMA VIDALES el segundo premio es para EDGAR GONZALES ORTEGA En nombre de las familias de Mark Twain ELAC, nos gustaría agradecer a la Sra. Paula Wyant por su apoyo incondicional y liderazgo a lo largo de estos 2 años. Sin Sra. Paula, no estaríamos aquí. También nos gustaría agradecer a maestros y familias de Mark Twain que asistieron a los diferentes eventos en apoyo de este comité
