FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Protecting Your Home This Fire Season
ANGELS CAMP, CA -- The City of Angels Community Development Department and Fire Department reminds the public that now is the time to protect your home and community from fire hazards. You can do your part throughout this summer to help prevent a fire.
Everyone can help prepare for dry weather by taking the following steps:
•Defensible space: Clear dead vegetation and create a buffer zone around your home.
•Pest management: Remove trees affected by pests to prevent spread. Be mindful of insect activity that increases in summer.
•Wood disposal: Remove or cover cut wood to avoid attracting beetles and other pests. Keep it away from healthy trees.
•Tree watering: In dry periods, water valuable trees sparingly, following best practices.
•Tree planting: Spring is a good time to plant new trees, provided there’s enough water.
During the summer season, you can help minimize the risk of wildfire by participating in the following activities:
•Ongoing debris removal: Continue removing dead or unhealthy trees.
•Pest watch: Monitor for tree pest activity, which peaks in summer.
•Fire safety: Exercise extreme caution with outdoor equipment to prevent sparks.
•Fall planting prep: Plan for fall tree planting, focusing on native species.
City of Angels Fire Chief, John Rohrabaugh, states, “The late season rains have promoted growth longer into the spring than normal so we’ve allowed more time than usual. However, with summer heat upon us we will begin sending out Abatement Order notifications on June 1, 2026 if your property is not in compliance with wildfire preparedness regulations.” Chief Rohrabaugh adds, “These strategies help keep your family, friends, and community safer.”
