📢 Upton residents, have your say!

West Northamptonshire Council is consulting on its Northampton Area Transport Strategy, looking at future transport proposals across Northampton. 🚌🚗🚲

📍 Of particular interest to Upton residents: take a look at Packages 10 and 13, and respond on page 9 of the consultation which relates specifically to Upton, Rugby & Football Stadiums.

👉 Read the consultation and submit your views:
Northampton Area Transport Strategy - Have Your Say | West Northamptonshire Council

📋 In our Strategic Parish Plan, Upton Parish Council committed to advocating for residents affected by match day and event parking. Our Councillors are therefore preparing responses to this consultation, and we strongly encourage residents to have their say too. 🗣️

Upton Parish Council’s Chairman, shared the suggestions he is planning to include in his Consultation Response;

“The draft strategy should specifically recognise Northampton's major sporting venues, including Sixfields Stadium and Franklin's Gardens, as important transport destinations. The document would be strengthened by policies addressing match-day parking management, protection of residential streets, enhanced public transport provision, park-and-ride opportunities and improved pedestrian and cycle access. In addition, a comprehensive wayfinding and signage strategy should be developed linking the railway station, town centre, parking facilities and stadiums.”

🗣️ Your local experience matters. Whether you are affected by event parking or have ideas for better transport links, please read the proposals and submit your own views. The Chairman’s suggestions may help you identify issues to raise, but your response should reflect your own experience and priorities.

🪔 The Diwali Walk of Light at The Elgar Centre was a lovely community event, bringing people together to celebrate in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. ✨ Councillor Mark Watson and Councillor Pauline Goodley attended, and the photos capture the peaceful Reflective Steps experience in the Willow Room, alongside colourful arts and crafts for all ages in the main hall. 🎨 It was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by the whole community. 🌟

A huge thank you to The Land Trust, Councillors Matthew Kinton, Mike Caddy and Andrew Holt, and all the fantastic volunteers who joined us for our bulb planting on Knot Tiers Drive on Saturday! 💚🌱 Together we planted an amazing 750 Fritillaria, Crocus and Galanthus bulbs, plus a whole sack of daffodils! 🌼🌷 We can’t wait to see the wonderful display of colour next spring. 🌸🐝

⚽ Cllr Mark Watson represents UPC at the Cobblers Play Fair launch

Parish Councillor Mark Watson attended the event on behalf of Upton Parish Council to learn more about the Cobblers Play Fair programme, build relationships with key partners and ensure Upton’s voice is heard. 🤝

The NTFC Play Fair programme’s focusses on preventing bullying, online hate and discrimination, whilst promoting allyship and inclusive sporting opportunities.
Attending also provided an important opportunity to strengthen the Parish Council’s positive working relationship with Northampton Town Football Club, which directly neighbours Upton parish, and was a good chance to connect with others who can help make a difference locally. 💬⚽

Upton Parish Council’s mission is “Helping to Grow a Community to be Proud Of”. 🌱🏡 A parish council may be a small fish in a much bigger pond 🐟, but we still have a vital role to play. If we do not make our voice heard and secure a seat at the table with our larger and more powerful neighbours, the interests of Upton residents may not be fairly represented.

By attending events like this, Mark is helping to make sure Upton is visible, connected and represented when decisions and partnerships affecting our community are being shaped. 📣

🚗 New Speed Indicator Device now live on Upton High Street!
Road safety along this stretch of High Street was raised as a concern in our Upton Community Survey, so this is an issue residents told us they wanted addressed. 🗣️✅
The bespoke pole was funded through a grant from the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC). 🙌 The solar-powered sign has been refurbished and redeployed from a previous location, giving existing equipment a new lease of life. ☀️♻️
The SID will remind drivers to check their speed and help improve road safety for everyone. 🚘🛣️
And by the way, doesn’t Upton look lovely in the October sunshine ☀️!!!
