LEMINGTON HEROES: 4 September 2026

A huge well done to our Lemington Heroes for the first week of term who we celebrated in our assembly this afternoon!

Every adult that stood up in assembly today said that they could have nominated anybody in their class this week - that sums up what a fantastic start to the term it's been!

A message from the Governing Body of Lemington Riverside to our parents, carers and community:

4 September 2026

Dear parents, carers and members of the Lemington Riverside Community,

Following the recent announcement that Mr Heeley will be leaving Lemington Riverside Primary School at October half term to take up a new role supporting schools more widely across Newcastle, we wanted to share a few words on behalf of the Governing Body.

We are, of course, incredibly pleased for Craig as he takes this exciting next step in his career. At the same time, there is inevitably great sadness that his time as Headteacher of Lemington Riverside is drawing to a close.

Craig has been an exemplary Headteacher and it has been a privilege for us, as governors, to work alongside him and to share in the considerable growth and development of Lemington Riverside during his headship.

Under Craig’s leadership, Lemington Riverside has developed into the happy, confident, inclusive and successful school that we see today, with a strong and important place at the heart of the Lemington community. His commitment to the school and, above all, to its children has always been at the centre of his leadership.

One of Craig’s greatest strengths has been the remarkable relationship he has built with our children. He knows them as individuals, understands the community they come from and has always wanted the very best for every one of them. This is evident whenever you spend time in the school and is something that will undoubtedly be remembered by children and families for many years to come.

Craig also leaves behind a strong, professional and inclusive staff team at all levels of the school. This is an important part of his legacy and means that Lemington Riverside is in very good hands as we enter the next chapter in the school’s journey.

The Governing Body is working carefully to put appropriate interim leadership arrangements in place and to begin the process of appointing Craig’s successor. We recognise the importance of getting this appointment right and will keep parents and carers informed as this work progresses.

Craig will undoubtedly be a hard act to follow. We are enormously grateful for everything he has given to Lemington Riverside and its community, and we wish him every success and happiness as he takes on this new and exciting challenge.

There will be an opportunity before October half term for us to properly recognise and celebrate Craig’s contribution to the school. For now, we simply want to place on record our sincere thanks for his outstanding service and leadership of Lemington Riverside Primary School.

Chair of Governors

STAY AND PLAY:

Our focus at both Lemington Riverside and Healthworks Pre-School this half term will be settling our lovely new children into our settings.

Therefore, our free 'Stay and Play' sessions for 0-5 year olds and their grown ups will resume in the Main Hall at Lemington Riverside Primary School after the October half term holiday.

We look forward to meeting the youngest members of our Lemington community again very soon!

Good morning!

What a fantastic start to the new school year - the children look so smart in their new school uniforms!

Our new breakfast club started today and it was great to see so many children there. A reminder that children must be booked in to the free breakfast club, you can't just turn up on the morning. Bookings can be made here > https://lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk/Free-Breakfast-Club/ . Children should arrive between 8:15am-8:20am if they are attending free breakfast club at the double blue doors on the Rokeby Street side of the main building (not the main entrance).

A reminder also that we have new staggered pick-up times and locations for pick-up at home time as follows:

- Year 1 - 3:20pm from the MAIN ENTRANCE on Sugley Street.
- Year 2 - 3:20pm from the DOUBLE BLUE DOORS on the Rokeby Street side of the main building.
- Year 3 - 3:20pm from the DOUBLE BLUE DOORS on the Rokeby Street side of the main buidling.

- Year 4 - 3:30pm from the DOUBLE BLUE DOORS on the Rokeby Street side of the main building.
- Year 5 - 3:30pm from the MAIN ENTRANCE on Sugley Street.
- Year 6 - 3:30pm from the MAIN ENTRANCE on Sugley Street.

Children will be dismissed from the door, one at a time by their class teacher. This is to ensure safe dismissal of all children. Please be patient with staff and do not enter the ramp areas to ensure dismissal is as safe and efficient as possible.

Children in years 4, 5, 6 who walk home alone will be dismissed by the class teacher first, before other children are handed to collecting adults.

Thank you for your patience as we put in place this new system for pick-up!

For children starting Nursery and Reception, remember we have a staggered return for these classes as our early years staff complete home visits for our new starter children this week. These dates/times were communicated before the holidays, but if you're not sure, please give the office a call on 0191 267 4315 or email [email protected]
