To complete the challenge, children need to have read at least 6 books this summer. The challenge finishes on Saturday 12 September, so don't leave it too late!

📚 AN EVENING WITH SHARON GOSLING 📚

Last night, readers and booklovers gathered at Wooler Library to celebrate Sharon Gosling's new novel, The Hidden Library, which is set in our very own Seahouses.

Huge thanks to Lorena from The Book Loft for being our bookseller on the night, and to Judy Crow from Berwick Literary Festival for an excellent and engaging interview with Sharon.

We must also give a shout-out to our wonderful Library Assistants, Kath and Jo, whose unbridled enthusiasm and on-theme outfit planning made the night extra special, as well as to our amazing volunteers, and Glendale Gateway Trust for all of their support.

We couldn't let today go by without an ode to the wonderful human that was Dolly Parton. If there was anyone in the entire world who was as passionate about children's reading as us, it was Dolly.

If you don't already know, Dolly founded Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a book gifting program that sends out free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income.

After launching in 1995, the program grew quickly. First books were only distributed to children living in Sevier County, Tennessee where Dolly grew up. By 2003, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library had gifted one million books. It would prove to be the first of many millions of books sent to children around the world.

After the United States, the program launched in Canada in 2006, followed by the United Kingdom in 2007, Australia in 2013 and the Republic of Ireland in 2019.

Thank you, Dolly, for the books, and for the music. Sleep tight.
