Wishing everyone a spooktacular Halloween filled with plenty of treats, laughter and fun! Whether you're trick-or-treating, handing out candy or enjoying the festivities at home, we hope you have a wonderful evening.

Halloween can be spooky, but there's something even scarier: a neighbour facing food insecurity and not knowing where their next meal will come from. Thanks to the generosity and support of our incredible community, we can help ensure no neighbour goes hungry this fall. 🧡

Stay safe, have fun and enjoy a little Halloween magic!

Happy Halloween, Georgina! 🎃🖤

🐾 523 lbs of Love for Our Four-Legged Friends! 🐶❤️

A HUGE thank you to Lori MacLeod, York Community Outreach Coordinator with the Ontario SPCA, for arranging an incredible donation of 523 lbs of dog kibble for Georgina Food Pantry!

Our wonderful volunteer, Christine, made the trip to the York Region Animal Centre to pick up a full pallet of kibble, helping us ensure that our furry friends are cared for, too. 🐕🐾

Lori is a wonderful, ongoing supporter of the Pantry, and we are so grateful for her continued kindness, generosity, and commitment to our community.

Because food security includes our beloved pets, too! ❤️

Thank you, Lori and the Ontario SPCA, for making a difference for families and their four-legged companions in Georgina!

We are feeling extra grateful as we reflect on the incredible generosity shown to the Georgina Food Pantry over the Thanksgiving holiday! 🦃🍂

Thanks to Sobeys, FreshCo, our amazing volunteers, and our incredibly supportive community, our Thanksgiving Food Drives raised an astounding:

💵 $2,964.50 in monetary donations
🥫 3,865 lbs of food donated, valued at $14,399.15

These numbers represent so much more than dollars and pounds of food. They represent neighbours helping neighbours, families coming together, and a community that truly cares about ensuring everyone has access to food.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Sobeys and FreshCo for hosting these food drives, to every volunteer who gave their time and energy, and to every person who donated food or money. Your generosity makes a real difference for local families, and we couldn't do what we do without you.

We are blown away by the support our community continues to show, and we cannot thank you enough for helping make Thanksgiving a little brighter for our neighbours. 💚

From all of us at Georgina Food Pantry, thank you for showing what community is all about!

We have the BEST volunteers, don’t we?! 🙌

Today, we’re giving a big shoutout to Mickey, one of our wonderful volunteers, who put his creativity and resourcefulness to work by building shelves for our Special Diet Hampers using spare wood we already had in the warehouse! 🔨🪵

Our Special Diet Hampers help accommodate food allergies and specific dietary restrictions, ensuring we can better meet the unique needs of the diverse community we serve. Having the right storage helps us stay organized and make sure we can continue providing this important support to our neighbours. 💚

Not only did Mickey help us create much-needed storage, but he found a clever way to make use of materials we already had on hand. Talk about resourcefulness!

It’s volunteers like Mickey who make such a difference at Georgina Food Pantry. Whether it’s lending a helping hand, sharing a skill, or coming up with a creative solution, every act of kindness helps us better serve our community.

Thank you, Mickey, for your ingenuity, hard work, and for being such an amazing part of our team! 👏

We’re so lucky to have volunteers who care so much. 💚

💚 A BIG THANK YOU TO YRP HEADQUARTERS! 💚

A huge shoutout to the staff at York Regional Police (YRP) Headquarters for participating in a Thanksgiving Food Drive in support of the Georgina Food Pantry!

Last week, Cathryn and Sina dropped off an incredible 551 lbs of food, valued at $2,044.21! 🥫👏

But the kindness didn’t stop there! 🧀 When Cathryn heard about our Children’s Breakfast Hamper Program, she ran next door to No Frills and purchased a dozen bricks of cheese because she knew they were on sale! Talk about going the extra mile! 💚

These thoughtful gestures make a real difference for local families and help ensure children in our community have access to nutritious food to start their day.

To the staff at YRP Headquarters, Cathryn, and Sina — thank you for your generosity, compassion, and for showing what it means to support our neighbours. We are so grateful to have you in our corner! 💚

💛 A Teachable Moment: Let’s Keep Our Community Fridge Thriving! 💛

This past weekend, we received a report of unsupervised children throwing and smashing food from our community fridge and pantry. While we don’t know who was involved, we are incredibly grateful to our wonderful volunteers and Town staff who took the time to clean everything up.

We’d like to take this opportunity to turn this into a teachable moment.

Please take a few minutes to talk with your children about the purpose of this initiative and the importance of the community fridge to so many people in Georgina. For some of our neighbours, this fridge provides access to food when they need it most. Every item inside represents someone’s generosity and an opportunity to help someone in our community.

Let’s spread the word, far and wide, to our young people and our not-so-young people, too! 😊 Together, we can help everyone understand the value of this initiative and do our part to keep it growing, thriving, and making a positive difference.

Thank you to everyone who supports, uses, maintains, and cares for this wonderful community resource. Let’s continue to look out for one another and keep kindness at the heart of everything we do. 💛
