Proud to call Orange home!

It’s wonderful to see Orange receiving recognition, with a recent list placing our city among Australia’s top ten most liveable cities.

Over the past two years, Orange has achieved some fantastic recognition at both state and national levels, including:

🏆 Australia’s No. 1 Retirement Location for 2025.

🏆 2025 NSW Overall Tidy Towns Winner.

🏆 National Tidy Towns finalist in 2026, receiving three national category awards and a Highly Commended recognition.

🏆 Seven awards at the 2026 NSW Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards.

🏆 2026 NSW Top Tourism Town Silver Award and NRMA People’s Choice Award.

These achievements reflect the wonderful lifestyle, community spirit, natural environment and opportunities that make Orange such a special place to live, work, invest, visit and retire.

As Mayor, I am incredibly proud of what our city continues to achieve. My sincere thanks go to Orange City Council staff, our volunteers, community organisations, local businesses and, most importantly, the people of Orange.

These achievements belong to our entire community. They are a reflection of the pride, commitment and contribution of so many people who work hard to make our city a better place.

We have plenty to be proud of in Orange, and plenty to look forward to!

🎃👻 Thank you to the Orange VIEW Club for inviting me to attend and speak at your monthly meeting, with Halloween providing a fun theme for the evening!

It was a pleasure to spend time with such a welcoming group of women, enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and hear more about the work VIEW Clubs do to support The Smith Family and educational opportunities for children experiencing disadvantage.

Beyond the fundraising, it was great to see the friendship, laughter and sense of community shared by members.

Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome and for the important contribution you make to our community. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

🥦🍎 Supporting our community, one fresh food parcel at a time.

It was a privilege to attend the Joblink Plus and Foodbank NSW & ACT Free Fresh Produce Pop-Up in Orange, an important initiative providing practical support to local people and families.

Approximately 350 people took advantage of the opportunity to access 6,500 kilograms of fresh produce, helping put fresh, nutritious food on the table while easing some of the pressure of everyday grocery costs.

A big thank you to Joblink Plus for funding this initiative and giving back to our community, and to Foodbank NSW & ACT for helping deliver this valuable support. I also want to acknowledge and thank Orange City Council’s events team and all the volunteers whose time, energy and generosity helped make the event such a success. 👏

Initiatives like this demonstrate what can be achieved when organisations work together with a genuine commitment to helping others. They provide immediate assistance, strengthen community connections and help people feel supported during challenging times.

Thank you to everyone involved for making a real difference here in Orange. 🤝

🌿🌸 Orange Public School Open Gardens 🌸🌿

It was a pleasure to attend the Orange Public School Open Gardens this morning, held at The Hub at the OPS Infants School.

Events like this are a wonderful way to bring our community together, celebrate the beauty of our local gardens and raise valuable funds to support our students and their school.

A big congratulations to the OPS P&C Committee for organising this fantastic event and for the time and effort they put into making it a success. Fundraising events like these play an important role in supporting our schools and providing additional opportunities for our children.

It was also wonderful to hear the students singing, including the school choir. Their performances added a lovely touch to the morning and were a great reminder of the talent and enthusiasm of our young people. 🎶👏

Thank you to the many volunteers who gave their time to help everything run smoothly, and to the generous garden owners who opened their gates to the public and shared their beautiful gardens with the community.

Well done to everyone involved for creating such a special community event and supporting Orange Public School. 🌱

👔A bit of fashion, a lot of laughs, and an important message!

I had the pleasure of joining local State Member Phil Donato, Cabonne Mayor Kevin Beatty, local Police Officer Sean Grabham and several other local men for a special fashion parade at the Australian National Field Days.

We hit the catwalk in style wearing outfits generously provided by RB Sellers, before changing into our colourful TradeMutt shirts to help raise awareness of men’s mental health.

Let’s just say we didn’t take ourselves too seriously! 😂 There were plenty of laughs, a few questionable modelling moves and some good-natured entertainment for the crowd.

At the end of the parade, the TradeMutt shirts were given away to some lucky people in the crowd, helping spread the message even further.

A special thank you to Zoe Macartney for her fantastic efforts in organising the men’s parade and making sure we were all dressed for the occasion. Thanks also to RB Sellers for providing the outfits and to TradeMutt for the great work they do in getting men talking about mental health.

Behind the humour was a serious and important message. Men’s mental health matters, and encouraging men to start conversations, check in on their mates and seek support when they need it can make a real difference.

Sometimes, a little humour can help start a conversation that really matters. 🙌

🎉🏃‍♂️ Celebrating 10 years of Orange parkrun!

It was a pleasure to join the parkrun community at Gosling Creek Reserve today to celebrate this wonderful 10-year milestone — and I was delighted to have the opportunity to cut the celebration cake!

Congratulations to the dedicated committee, organisers and countless volunteers who have helped make Orange parkrun such a special part of our community.

For 10 years, parkrun has brought people together every Saturday morning through fitness, friendship and a shared sense of belonging. Whether walking, jogging, running or volunteering, everyone is welcome, and everyone can be part of something special.

The benefits extend well beyond physical health, supporting mental wellbeing, social connection and a stronger community. It’s also a wonderful way for visitors to discover Orange and experience our welcoming community firsthand.

And what a perfect setting! Gosling Creek Reserve provides a beautiful natural backdrop for an event that celebrates healthy living, the outdoors and community spirit.

Congratulations to everyone who has contributed over the past decade. Here’s to many more years of happy Saturday mornings, new friendships and healthier, more connected communities! 👏

A wonderful evening celebrating the people who tell our stories.

It was a pleasure attending the 2026 Country Press NSW Awards of Excellence tonight, where I presented several awards and helped celebrate the talented people who work so hard to keep our regional communities informed, connected and proud of who we are.

A huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners. It’s so important that we take the time to recognise the passion, dedication and hard work that goes into local journalism. Behind every story is someone who has taken the time to listen, ask questions, capture a moment or shine a light on something that matters to our community.

As Mayor of Orange, I know just how much our local newspapers and journalists mean to the people they serve. They tell our stories, celebrate our successes, give a voice to local people and make sure the issues that matter to our communities are heard. They capture the big moments, but just as importantly, they tell the everyday stories of the people who make our towns such wonderful places to live.

Local journalism is about so much more than reporting the news. It’s about connection, trust, community spirit and making sure regional voices are never overlooked.

Congratulations again to everyone nominated and to all tonight’s winners. Thank you for the work you do, the stories you share and the difference you make in our communities. Your contribution is valued more than you might realise. 👏

☕🏉 A coffee, a catch-up and a bit of rugby talk!

It was great to catch up again with Phil Kearns, former Wallabies captain and rugby legend, alongside Orange City Council CEO Scott Maunder.

Phil has recently become an Orange resident, which is fantastic news for our community. It’s always good to catch up, have a chat and, on this occasion, enjoy a coffee while talking about sport and the opportunities ahead.

With the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia next year, there’s plenty to discuss about the game we love and the opportunities major sporting events can bring to regional communities like Orange.

Great to see you, Phil. Welcome to Orange! 👏🏉

🌿🏆 ORANGE PROUD TO HOST THE 2026 NSW TIDY TOWNS AWARDS!

It was a pleasure to welcome her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beasley ACKC - Governor of NSW, as well as communities from across NSW to Orange for the 2026 Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards.

The weekend included a welcoming function, category awards, shared case studies and tours showcasing our wonderful region, including visits to Mount Canobolas – Gaanha-Bula and Ross Hill Wines, a carbon-neutral vineyard.

As last year’s Overall Tidy Towns winner, Orange was proud to host this event and showcase our region to visitors from across the state.

These awards celebrate the people, volunteers, community groups, businesses and councils working hard to protect our environment and make their communities better places to live.

Congratulations to National Finalist Dungog and all the finalists and award recipients, and sincere thanks to Keep Australia Beautiful NSW and everyone involved in making the weekend such a success.

I hope our visitors enjoyed their time in Orange and returned home with new ideas, lasting connections and inspiration to share with their own communities.

🏆 A WELL-DESERVED RECOGNITION FOR CHRIS GRYLLIS OAM! 👏

Congratulations to Orange’s own Chris Gryllis OAM on winning the 2026 NSW Local Hero Award at the NSW Tidy Towns Awards, presented by Keep Australia Beautiful NSW.

Chris’s recognition is a wonderful reflection of his longstanding commitment to our community and his passion for making Orange a better place to live, work and visit.

His involvement began back in 1982, and for more than four decades, he has continued to demonstrate what can be achieved through dedication, community spirit and a genuine love for our city.
