Yarra Ranges Community Toy Libraries operates 2 toy libraries in Mount Evelyn & Montrose (opening 2021), Victoria.

Closed public holidays, limited hours during school holidays. Members can borrow a wide range of toys, games & puzzles for children aged 0-10. We are a 100% volunteer run organization committed to improving access to play, social engagement & sustainability in our community. Please note: we are closed during school holidays

Our Annual General Meeting is coming up!

The AGM is our once-a-year meeting where we look back on the year, elect the committee and make sure everything’s in order for the year ahead. It’s relaxed and friendly, and all members are welcome.

It’s also a great time to get more involved. We’ve got new toys on the way, plans to refresh our spaces and plenty of momentum heading into next year. If you’ve ever thought about joining the committee or helping out in a bigger way, we’d love to hear from you. No experience needed, and we’ll support you as you find your feet. It’s a great way to be part of a fantastic bunch of like-minded locals, and to help shape our wonderful community toy library.

🎃 Halloween party coming up and still need a costume? 👻

We’ve got a rack of dress-ups ready to borrow: pirates, superheroes, animals, and more, in a range of kids’ sizes.

Montrose is open today (Thursday) 9am-12pm
Mt Evelyn is open this Saturday (Halloween!) 9:30-11am

Not a member yet? Our 1-month membership is just $30. That’s around the cost of a new costume, but you can borrow toys and puzzles too, so it’s a great way to try out the toy library and see how it works for your family.

We love finding toys at the toy library that can be enjoyed by different ages and abilities!

These beginner pattern block puzzles are a hit with both my 2 and 4-year-old. They're simple and achievable for little learners, while developing shape recognition, matching and problem-solving skills.

The best part? The wooden trays are reversible, offering lots of different puzzles using the same set of shapes!

Have you spotted our Story Bags on the shelves? Our coordinator Hannah has put together more than 30 of them, and we love them!

Each bag has a picture book and a handful of toys and activities that go with the story.

Before Hannah joined us she was a library technician, running Storytime and cataloguing books. She’s brought all of that experience to these bags. Each one is chosen to turn a story into play, so little ones can act it out, retell it in their own words and keep it going long after the last page.

Story Bags are a great way to build early literacy, language and imagination. They’re also a fun way to try out a new interest, like space, animals, vehicles and more.

Look for the Story Bags category in our toy libraries, or ask a volunteer at your next session. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing some of our favourites, so keep an eye out!

Big family holiday + kids in charge of the entertainment = one very successful games night!

On a recent family getaway, the kids took it upon themselves to organise a games night for everyone, from the littlest cousins to the grandparents. They picked the games, explained the rules and provided the snacks - everyone had such a great time!

Among the games were Battle Sheep (in photo), Blokus and Jenga.

Heading away on a family holiday soon? A few board games from the toy library pack easily and can fill a rainy afternoon or a whole evening. Our games shelves are full and waiting to be borrowed.
