Mothers have always been at the heart of our communities and our history. During apartheid, ANC freedom fighter Cde Thandi Modise was arrested while pregnant and gave birth in detention. Today, services like MomConnect provide free pregnancy, breastfeeding and childcare guidance directly to mothers’ phones, with nearly five million mothers registered since its launch in 2014. We’ve made progress, but there’s more to do to ensure every mother and child gets the care they need. On 4 November, make your vote count and have your say in the future of maternal healthcare.
