NELSON MANDELA BAY MUNICIPALITY UPDATE
JOINT OPERATIONS CENTRE, JOC | DISASTER RESPONSE

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Joint Operations Centre, JOC, is actively coordinating response to six weather related incidents recorded across the metro this evening.
These include four flooding incidents, one power outage, and one high risk canal situation requiring evacuation support, with multiple municipal teams deployed.
FULL INCIDENT BREAKDOWN
1. Power Outage, 19:17
Electricity supply disruption was reported in Markman and Bluewater Bay.
Power has since been successfully restored in Bluewater Bay, Amsterdam, and Wells Estate, reducing impact on households, businesses, schools, and other essential services.
2. Ward 19 Incident, 19:40
An incident was reported and a Disaster Management official was immediately dispatched.
The situation has been attended to, with no major escalation reported.
3. Flooding Incidents, 19:59 to 20:05
Flooding has been reported in the following areas:
• Matomela and Seysi Street
• Boxongo
• JT Kabah
• Stack Street
• Woolfson
• Ward 29, Motherwell
Infrastructure and Engineering teams are on the ground, clearing stormwater drains, removing blockages, and managing water flow to reduce risk to homes, roads, and public infrastructure.
Some areas are experiencing partial road access and localised disruptions.
4. Rising Water Levels, Cat Canal, 20:55
A high risk alert was triggered due to rising water levels at Cat Canal.
Disaster Management teams are on site, and evacuation support is being provided where necessary to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
ADDITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE IMPACT
Summerstrand
A section of Summerstrand is currently affected by a substation related electricity disruption.
Electricity and Energy teams have been deployed and are actively working on site to restore supply as a priority.
SERVICE DELIVERY CLARIFICATION
A refuse collection query reported in Ward 58 at 20:34 has been classified as a routine service matter and referred to Public Health.
It does not form part of emergency operations.

Residents are urged to take the following precautions:
• Avoid flooded roads, bridges, and low lying areas
• Do not attempt to cross flowing or standing water
• Keep children away from streams, canals, and stormwater drains
• Remain alert in flood prone areas
