Event Life 101: Know the power of a good team and recognize all that they do. Tonight, hundreds of walkers will show up for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes during First Friday York. But before they arrive, there are many last-minute preparations underway, including ensuring Lot 8 is dry, clear, and ready for the celebration.

Thank YOU to the YWCA York maintenance team for always going above and beyond. We appreciate you 🧡

Your boundaries matter. You have the right to say no, change your mind, and make choices without pressure.

The early weeks of the fall semester are often called the “Red Zone,” when college students face a higher risk of sexual assault.

Pressure can include guilt trips, threats, or repeatedly asking after someone has said no. Whether you’ve just met or have been together for years, you deserve to have your choices respected.

If something doesn’t feel right, you can talk to us. You don’t need to know exactly what to call your experience before reaching out. Please contact YWCA York's free and confidential hotline at 1-800-262-8444.

It's almost Walk a Mile in Her Shoes™ time!! Are you ready for this Friday? Get all the details here:

*Registration starts at 4:00 PM*
- Get there early if you are renting shoes. Heels are $10, and the coveted Go-Go boots are $20. Shoes are on a first-come, first-served basis!

*Our program starts at 5:00 PM*
- We have some incredible speakers who will center the why behind the reason we walk.
- Our DJ will be pumping the tunes to help raise the celebration energy.
- First Capital Dispensing Co. (right across from Lot 8) will have a signature drink to benefit YWCA York.
- Have kiddos? We have special Walk a Mile coloring pages and the ever-popular acrylic markers!

The walk officially starts at 6:00 PM 👠
- Grab some of the QR codes before you head out with the group. It's First Friday York, so there will be lots of opportunities to hand them out and encourage others to support survivors.

*COME BACK!!!*
- Yes, we know First Friday is a vibe, but we need you to come back for a little bit so we can:
~ Get your rented shoes back. Those boots are made for Walk a Mile, but every year we lose a bunch when they accidentally go home with guys 👀
~ Celebrate! We'll announce the total raised AND hand out prizes for the Largest Team, Top Team Fundraiser, Top Individual Fundraiser, and Most Team Spirit ✨

Are there people in your life who still want to get involved? There's still time to have them sign up - the more people that are there, the bigger the statement. And remember, heels are encouraged but not required. Showing up is what matters.

When York College of Pennsylvania reaches out to tell you that their fraternities proactively reached out to support survivors through Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, you take a moment to feel grateful and then immediately ask them to say more! And we are so glad we asked, because here are their answers:

Why is it important for you to support Walk a Mile in Her Shoes?

It is important for us as Fraternities to support and participate in Walk a Mile to show that domestic and sexual violence is an issue we all need to address so that we can help put an end to it. As well as redefining the standard of healthy masculinity in fraternities, and the best way to do this is by example.

What are some responses you hear from people when you talk to them about the event?

Initial responses we’ve heard when we explain to people that we are physically walking a mile in women’s shoes is laughter or questions. But once we explain the cause and importance of it, we are greeted with gratitude that young men are a small part in the fight against physical and domestic violence.

What do you wish more people in our community would know about sexual assault and domestic violence?

One thing I would like more people to know is that you might not always hear about it, but sexual assault and domestic violence can happen to anyone, anywhere, and it’s important that we support a survivor by any means necessary, as well as prevention starting with yourself, whether that’s changing how you talk or challenging others' opinions.

Thank you to these amazing men for leading by example. There is still time to join them: https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/York/WalkAMileInHerShoes2026
