PUBLIC HEARING: Proposed Data Center Zoning Regulations

To be clear: No data center has been approved, and no properties in Clinton Township are currently zoned M-2 for these proposed uses.

Clinton Township is taking the first step toward establishing zoning regulations for advanced manufacturing facilities, including data centers.

The goal is to put regulations and an approval process in place BEFORE any future development proposals are considered.

What does this actually mean?

Under the proposed amendment:
1. No properties are currently zoned M-2. A property owner or developer would first need to obtain approval to rezone a property to the M-2 General Industrial District.
2. Rezoning alone would not be enough. A proposed facility would also need conditional use approval and would have to meet applicable zoning requirements.
3. No specific development is being approved. This amendment does not rezone land, approve a data center, or authorize construction.

Why is the Township considering this?
Establishing zoning language creates a defined process for reviewing these types of facilities and determining where they may be considered in the future.

Fulton County Prosecuting Attorney Luke Jones intends to attend to explain the proposed zoning process.
