Just a reminder for Borough of Walnutport residents. If any person that goes from door to door and engages in business, they must obtain a Solicitation Permit from the borough office to do such. There are exceptions, which can be found of the borough webpage, under the ordinance section.

If an individual comes to your door and wants to engage in buying a product or provide information on a product, PLEASE do not open the door for them, make sure all other doors and means of entry are locked, and NEVER invite them into your residence. Ask them for a Borough of Walnutport issued Solicitation Permit, with the date for that specific day, request to see some sort of identification that represents the company they are solicitating. If they do not have a permit, please ask them to leave and contact the Walnutport Police Department with a good description and direction of travel of the individual(s). The Walnutport Police Department has partnered up with Lehigh Valley Health Network and joined the BLUE ENVELOPE PROGRAM.

The Blue Envelope Program is primarily aimed at drivers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and also can apply to those with other communication difficulties, anxiety or conditions that might hurt their ability to communicate during a traffic stop, accident or other interactions with police.

Inside the envelope is a sheet that explains the Blue Envelope Program and provides contact information for those who would be able to provide medical information or assistance in interacting with the driver if that becomes necessary. The sheet explains that ASD can impair the driver’s ability to communicate, that they may have difficulty understanding or responding to questions, or that they might display physical signs of being uncomfortable.

Drivers in the program are instructed to let law enforcement know they have a Blue Envelope and to retrieve the envelope when asked by police. It’s recommended that ASD and other special needs drivers keep their driver’s license, registration and insurance information in the Blue Envelope along with the information sheet that contains the emergency contacts.

Since vacation season has officially begun, we felt that it would be a good reminder to inform you that if you are a resident in the Borough of Walnutport, and you are planning on going away for few days, few weeks, or a few months, you could let us know and we can check on your place while you are gone. All you have to do is either come to our station and get a Security Check Form or you can go to www.walnutportpa.org, go under the police department information, and click on forms, print it and fill it out, and turn it into us.
We provide this service so you can enjoy your time away and not worry about the security of your residence. Another good reason on why it is good idea notify us, just in case something does happen your residence, we can make the proper notification to you or your designated person, or in case of a fire, when you are out of town, we know that you are not trapped inside.

Management from the Walnutport McDonald's contacted this department and they want to extend the COFFEE WITH A COP event and add that the proceeds they receive during the COFFEE WITH A COP event on Saturday June 27 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM, will go to the families from the May 9 fire. So please, come out and enjoy some time with us and the staff from Walnutport McDonald's, but also support the two families that loss everything to fire. 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟖𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐲𝐬

HARRISBURG – Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today announced he helped secure almost $523,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for projects in the 183rd Legislative District.

Act 71 of 2004 provides for the distribution of LSA gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects of public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

“I’m grateful to partner with Sens. Nick Miller and Jarrett Coleman to secure funding for these projects,” Mako said. “These resources will support the repair and replacement of essential infrastructure and equipment that municipalities and organizations rely on to better serve our community. I’m glad to help pursue this funding, as moving forward without it would have been difficult.”

Municipalities receiving LSA funding are:

• Northampton Borough – $59,397 to replace the police chief’s command vehicle.
• Lehigh Township – $89,500 to replace its mobile vehicle radios in its police vehicles and its base station at the police department due to a change in Northampton County 911 dispatching.
• Lehigh Township – $60,987 to replace its police radios to secure, modern digital devices, which will improve interoperability with surrounding areas.
• Slatington Borough – $36,241 to purchase a new patrol vehicle for the police department.
• Slatington Borough – $17,422 to make critical roof repairs to the Slatington Public Library.
• Borough of Walnutport– $56,911 to purchase a new camera system for four patrol cars, body-worn cameras for its officers and tasers.
• Borough of Walnutport– $202,432 to replace an aging and malfunctioning municipal dump truck.

The 183rd House District includes Lowhill and North Whitehall townships and Slatington Borough in Lehigh County. It also consists of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Moore (part) townships, and Bath, North Catasauqua, Northampton and Walnutport boroughs in Northampton County.

At the monthly Walnutport Borough Council Meeting on May 14, Mayor Wayne Weidner and Chief Jason Nothstein had the pleasure to present a CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION to five individuals, from two different incidents.

The first incident happened on April 20, when Patrol Officer Aung "ALEX" Tha, The Diamond Fire Company of Walnutport - Fire Station Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Kromer and Firefighter Matthew K***z jumped into the Lehigh River and pulled a male, who was showing signs of hypothermia, out of the water so he could be treated by waiting ambulance crew. All three men showed bravery and selflessness, and risked their own lives to save another human being.

The second incident occurred on April 26, when Patrol Officer Scott Ledo and The Diamond Fire Company of Walnutport - Fire Station Firefighter William Miller helped break up a su***de attempt, inevitably saving a man's life, by quick thinking and having a resilient mindset and effort.
