Statement Regarding “Suspense” Voters from McLennan County Elections Administrator Jared Goldsmith:
I understand there is concern surrounding the news regarding the list of “Suspense” voters. There are two important notes for everyone to remember regarding “Suspense” voters:
1. “Suspense” status does not equal “Cancelled” status.
2. Voters in “Suspense” status cast a regular ballot.
I want to encourage all voters to check their voter registration now at www.votetexas.gov. If a voter finds they are in “Suspense” (or any other discrepancies), they have until the voter registration deadline, Monday, October 5th, to update their registration information. Remember, even if a “Suspense” voter doesn't make corrections by this deadline, that voter is still eligible to cast a regular (not provisional) ballot.
If a voter is in “Suspense” status when they vote, the poll workers will give the voter a “Statement of Residence” form for the voter to complete at the polls before they vote. Simply by completing this form will place the “Suspense” voter back into “Active” status.
