When seconds count, your actions on the road can make a big difference. Here’s how to safely respond when an emergency vehicle is approaching:

👉 Stay Alert: Whether driving or walking, always be aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions like loud music or using your phone.

👀 Look & Locate: As soon as you hear a siren, check your mirrors and look around to spot the emergency vehicle—sometimes it’s coming from behind or from a side street.

➡️ Pull Over Safely: Signal and carefully pull over to the right side of the road. Come to a complete stop and avoid sudden braking.

🚫 Don’t Block: Never stop in intersections or crosswalks, and don’t follow closely behind emergency vehicles.

🔁 Before You Merge Back In: Often, more than one emergency vehicle may be responding to the same 911 call—like an ambulance, fire truck, or command vehicle. Make sure the road is clear before merging back into traffic. Look and listen for any additional sirens before moving.

Your cooperation helps us respond quickly and safely—thank you for sharing the road!

When you call 911 in an emergency, one of the most important things dispatchers need to know is where you are. That can be easy if you’re at home — but what if you’re on a trail, at a park, or somewhere without a clear address?

That’s where the what3words app comes in. 🌎📱

The app divides the world into tiny squares, each with a unique three-word address. If you share those three words with the 911 dispatcher, it gives them your exact location — so first responders know exactly where to go. 🚑💨

This tool is especially helpful when:
✨ You’re in a rural area with no landmarks
✨ You’re traveling on back roads
✨ You’re in a large park or outdoor event space

It’s free, easy to download, and could make all the difference in an emergency.

We hope you’ll never need it — but if you do, know that our 911 partners can use what3words to send help straight to you, no matter where you are. 💙

Today, we remember.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting others will never be forgotten.

While many are spending today with family and friends, please know that the crews at Meramec Ambulance District are continuing to serve our community — just as we do every holiday, day and night. It is our privilege to be here when you need us most.

As you enjoy the holiday, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and remember the heroes who gave everything for our freedom.

From all of us at Meramec Ambulance District, thank you to our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy each and every day. 🇺🇸💙

We hope everyone has a safe, meaningful, and memorable Memorial Day with those you love.

An amazing post from our friends at St. Francois County Ambulance District that we wanted to share with our community here at home! 💙

If you are reading this and you have ever called 911 about your child, you already know there is a particular type of fear that lives only in those minutes between the call and the door.

A message for that parent, from the ambulance on its way.

We heard the call. We are already moving. The dispatcher who took your call is highly trained, and the questions they are asking you are not slowing us down. They are helping us.

While you wait, here is what helps us most:

- If your child is breathing and conscious, stay with them. Keep them calm.
- If they are not, follow the dispatcher's instructions exactly. They will walk you through CPR if you need it. You can do this!
- Unlock the front door if it is safe to do so.
- Move pets to another room if you can. We love them too, but we need a clear path.
- Have any medications your child is currently taking ready to show us.
- Take a breath. We are coming.

The wait is the worst part. We know. We are almost there.

Today is EMS for Children Day. To every parent who has ever made that call, we are sorry you had to. And we are honored to have been the people who walked in.
