ALA is heartbroken at the passing of country music legend, cultural icon, and champion of literacy Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s award-winning Imagination Library initiative, inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, has put hundreds of millions of free books into the hands of children across America and was considered by her to be one of her greatest achievements.

“We’re giving books to kids who wouldn’t have a chance to get them otherwise,” she told American Libraries in a 2018 interview. “A lot of people think this is just for poor children—it’s for all children. It’s important to get books into the hands of any child that we can.”

ALA was proud to confer Dolly with an honorary lifetime membership, the Association’s highest honor, in 2023 for her lasting impact on librarianship, libraries, and the communities they serve.

Dolly was also part of ALA’s Celebrity READ campaign, in which she holds a copy of 'The Little Engine That Could.'

“I’ve always related to that book because I’m the little engine that did!” she said.

The Tifton-Tift County Public Library is taking advantage of the heat! Join us as we explore the power of the sun by making and testing solar powered ovens right here at the library! This experiment is for young scientists ages 6-11, and is happening on August 17th at 4 PM, so don't miss the chance to learn and have fun with us!

What a SWEET success!
Our Cake Painting Paint ’n Sip was a HUGE hit! We had 21 talented participants join us for an evening of creativity, fun, and delicious-looking masterpieces!
Everyone brought their imagination to the table and created their very own Monet inspired painting using cake as their canvas and colored frostings and artists pallet knives as their tools. We loved seeing all the creativity, laughter, and fun throughout the evening!
A BIG thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening so special. We can’t wait to see you at our next Paint ’n Sip!
A huge thank you to the Tifton-Tift County Library Foundation for funding the program, Miss Robin for baking the cakes, and Miss Ronnie for putting the program together!!

Paint 'N Sip... with a Sweet Twist!
Who says you have to paint on a canvas? Join us for a deliciously creative Paint 'N Sip where we'll enjoy coffee, tea, and "paint" on pieces of cake using colorful icing and edible decorations!
Whether you're creating a masterpiece or just having fun with friends, this adults-only event is sure to be a sweet time filled with laughter, creativity, and tasty treats.
