This week we're highlighting three types of magnolias that will be available at our upcoming tree giveaway.

Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora)

• Native to Georgia and the southeastern United States
• Can grow 60–80 feet tall
• Evergreen tree with large, dark green leaves
• Produces large, fragrant white flowers
• Produces seed cones with bright red seeds that attract birds and other wildlife

Sweetbay Magnolia (Magnolia virginiana)

• Native to Georgia and the southeastern United States
• Typically grows 10–35 feet tall
• Produces fragrant white flowers in late spring and summer
• Has silvery undersides on its leaves
• Attracts birds and other wildlife

Saucer Magnolia (Magnolia × soulangeana)

• Typically grows 20–30 feet tall
• Known for its large pink and white flowers
• Blooms in late winter or early spring before the leaves emerge
• A popular ornamental tree for residential landscapes
• Originally developed from magnolia species native to Asia

This week we're highlighting two more species that will be available at our upcoming tree giveaway.

Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum)

• Native to Georgia and the southeastern United States
• Typically grows 50–70 feet tall
• Known for its reddish-brown fall color
• Can grow in both wet and dry soil conditions
• Long-lived tree that can live for hundreds of years

Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)

• Native to Georgia and much of the eastern United States
• Typically grows 30–50 feet tall
• Evergreen and keeps its foliage year-round
• Produces blue, berry-like cones that provide food for birds
• Provides good cover and nesting habitat for wildlife
• Tolerates a variety of soil conditions

This week we're highlighting American Plum (Prunus americana).

• Native to Georgia and much of the eastern United States
• Typically grows 15–25 feet tall
• Produces white flowers in early spring
• Produces small red to yellow plums that can be eaten fresh or used for jams and jellies
• Provides food and cover for birds and other wildlife
• Can grow as a small tree or large shrub
• Good option for naturalized areas and wildlife plantings

• Typically grows 40–60 feet tall
• Known for its red flowers, fruits, and fall color

• Grows well in a variety of soil conditions
• Fast-growing tree that provides good shade
• A common choice for landscapes and urban areas

• A long-lived tree that can do well in a variety of soil conditions
• Good tree for providing food and habitat for wildlife
• Also known as Tupelo

• Native to Georgia and much of the eastern United States
• Typically grows 15–25 feet tall
• Produces yellow, ribbon-like flowers in fall
• One of the later-blooming native trees and shrubs
• Provides food and cover for wildlife
• Known for its attractive yellow fall color
• Works well as a smaller tree or large shrub in the landscape
