Planning to head to Swan Creek Park this month? Upcoming pond maintenance work may impact your visit.

The northeast side of the park will be closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays June 8-19 while crews remove gravel from a sediment pond.

The pond is located near the currently closed parking lot near the Pioneer Way East and Waller Road East intersection.

The trail that travels from the parking lot at East 42nd Street and East Roosevelt Avenue to the sediment pond will be closed at the pedestrian bridge located about a half-mile from the parking lot.

Chip sealing may be coming to a road near you this summer!

This road resurfacing treatment typically extends the life of the pavement by seven to 15 years and reduces maintenance costs.

Visit www.PierceCountyWa.gov/ChipSeal to see a map of our 2026 locations.

The work began June 1 and will run through August.

You can report road issues at www.PierceCountyWa.gov/Works.

Crews are making good progress on the sewer installation on 208th Street East between SR 7 and 22nd Avenue East.

This week, paving is scheduled to be completed for the two driveways in the work area along SR 7, north of 208th Street East, and the sewer easement in Mountain Terrace Estates.

208th Street East is scheduled to reopen in early July. Once the road reopens, the intersection of 208th Street East and 22nd Avenue East is scheduled to close for about 3 weeks for a manhole installation. We will share more details including a detour route prior to the intersection closure.

Sometimes good food goes bad...but have no fear - we can compost it!

Food scraps and wasted food alike can be placed in a food and yard waste cart throughout Tacoma and Pierce County. Food waste and yard waste are combined to make valuable compost products that benefit soil health in our region. And keeping food waste out of the garbage can help you save money when you downsize your garbage cart!

Waste less food, compost the rest.

Due to the rain today, paving on Woodland Avenue East south of 112th Street East has been delayed until next week. Paving is scheduled to occur next Thursday, June 4, and will require a road closure on Woodland between 120th Street East and 112th Street East.

Woodland Avenue East will open to traffic by the end of today, Friday, May 29. The road will close again for the day during paving next Thursday, June 4. During the closure, traffic should detour using 112th Street East, Canyon Road East (to the west) or 86th Avenue East (to the east), and 128th Street East.

Travelers should also expect temporary lane closures on 112th Street East next week for utility work. Please slow down when traveling through work areas. Follow all posted signs and flaggers.

After paving next week, the remaining work is at the pump station site, which will not impact the traveling public.

For more information and to view a detour map for June 4, please visit www.PierceCountyWa.gov/WoodlandPS

Update: This work has been postponed. We will provide a new date once it has been set.

Original post: Canyon Road East motorists: Expect delays if you are heading northbound near the State Route 512 eastbound on-ramp on Saturday, May 30.

Crews will repair damaged pavement along the curb just south of the eastbound on-ramp between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The right-hand lane will be closed from 112th Street East to the end of the overpass. The other two northbound lanes will remain open.

Motorists will be able to turn right from the middle lane onto the eastbound on-ramp.

This work is being completed on a Saturday to avoid impacting the weekday commute.
