Updated drought map for this week - as you can see it’s a significant change from last week’s map.

Also attached the National map, to show our area is not the only place with the drought issue.

Some rain is in the forecast for this weekend and early next week. It will help some, but not enough

DROUGHT CONDITIONS / STATUS

As shared in the post immediately below this post, last week’s Drought map shows most of Middle Tennessee, including our area, in a Severe Drought status.

Some interesting statistics-

Normally, Rainfall between January 1st & April 20th should be about 16 inches. This year we have received 9.5 inches, so we are 6.5 inches behind just since January 1st. April & May are normally 2 of our wetter months of the year - but it’s not so far this year.

To fully be out of this drought, we need 12 inches of rain (not all at once!!).

SUD’s demand for water is about 250,000 gallons per day. Currently, we are meeting this demand with no problem - but it is unknown how long that will be sustainable. Some rain (1-2 inches) is in the forecast for this weekend - and that will help some, if it comes to fruition - but it’s a long way from what we really need.

The updated Drought Map will be shared when it is issued on Thursday. In the meantime, customers are asked to be judicious in your use of water - remember we are all in this together !
