June 1 – June 15, 2026

June 1 - A 45-year-old Union man was charged with 2 counts of theft of movable property as a result of a Detective Bureau investigation of shoplifting incidents reported at a Morris Avenue pharmacy on March 10 and May 26, 2026.

June 1 – Patrol officers were detailed to a Morris Avenue pharmacy on a report of a shoplifting in progress. Three suspects were detained by responding officers. Merchandise totaling $878 was recovered at the scene. A 40-year-old Irvington man was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics paraphernalia and outstanding warrants out of Union and Newark. A 48-year-old Port Reading woman was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Elizabeth and Passaic, and a 37-year-old Newark woman was arrested and charged with theft of movable property and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. A follow-up investigation by the Detective Bureau led to supplementary theft charges being filed against the Port Reading woman and Irvington man.

June 3 – A 23-year-old Orange man was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Garfield as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Morris Avenue.

June 3 – A 39-year-old Jersey City man was charged with altering public records as a result of a follow-up investigation of a motor vehicle stop involving fictitious plates on South Springfield Avenue.

June 4 – A 32-year-old Teaneck man was arrested and charged with shoplifting at a Morris Turnpike convenience store.

June 5 – A 20-year-old Irvington man was arrested on multiple warrants out of Newark and East Orange as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 22.

June 5 – A 46-year-old South Orange woman was arrested for driving while under the influence as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 22.

June 6 – A 26-year-old Rahway man was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 22.

June 11 – A 25-year-old East Orange man was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Bloomfield as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 22.

June 11 – Officers responded to a Morris Turnpike convenience store on a report of theft from a motor vehicle. As a result of a follow-up investigation by Detective Bureau personnel, a 55-year-old Newark man was charged with burglary and theft of movable property.

June 11 – Officers responded to a Mountain Avenue business on a report that an individual who had previously shoplifted was currently inside the store. As a result of an on-scene investigation, a 37-year-old Newark woman was arrested and charged with theft of movable property, as well as an outstanding warrant out of Newark.

June 14 – A 36-year-old Springfield man was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Caldwell Place.

June 15 – Officers responded to a Morris Turnpike convenience store on a report of a shoplifter who had fled the scene on foot. An individual matching the suspect’s description was located on Broad Street in Summit. The suspect, a 49-year-old Summit man, was arrested and charged with theft and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Merchandise totaling $90.44 was recovered and returned to the business.

June 15 – A 40-year-old Summit man was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Morris Avenue.

June 15 – Officers were detailed to a Route 22 amusement center on a report of a male inside the building with a firearm. Upon arrival an individual matching the suspect description was observed fleeing into a wooded area adjacent to the building. Responding officers took the suspect into custody and located a handgun following a brief foot pursuit. The suspect, a 20-year-old Union man, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not permitted to carry a firearm, and possession of a high-capacity magazine.

The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating several motor vehicle burglaries and attempted motor vehicle burglaries that have occurred during the past two nights throughout the south side of the Township.

Residents are reminded to take simple precautions to help prevent becoming a victim:

• Always lock your vehicle, even when parked in your driveway.

• Remove your keys and key fobs from the vehicle.

• Do not leave valuables in plain view, including wallets, purses, electronics, and packages.

• Turn on exterior lighting and consider using security cameras when possible.

• Report any suspicious activity immediately by calling the Springfield Police Department at 973-376-0400, or 911 in an emergency.

Many vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity. Taking a few extra moments to secure your vehicle can help deter criminals and help keep our community safe.

🚨 Rideshare Safety Reminder: Verify Before You Ride 🚨

As our community prepares for increased travel and visitors during the FIFA World Cup 2026, rideshare services will play an important role in helping people get where they need to go safely. With more fans, events, and late-night travel, it is more important than ever to make sure you are getting into the right vehicle.

New Jersey’s Sami’s Law requires rideshare vehicles to display identifying information, including required placards/markers, so passengers can confirm they are entering the correct vehicle. These safety measures were created to help prevent tragedies caused by passengers mistakenly entering vehicles they believed were their rides.

Before getting into a rideshare:
✅ Check the driver’s name and photo in the app
✅ Confirm the vehicle’s make, model, and license plate
✅ Look for the required rideshare identification placard on the vehicle
✅ Never enter a vehicle that does not match your ride information
✅ If something feels wrong, trust your instincts and cancel the ride

A few seconds of verification can make a big difference. Whether you’re heading home, traveling to a World Cup event, or simply using a rideshare service around town — verify before you ride.

Please be advised that the celebratory parade for our JDHS 2026 State Championship Softball Team will begin momentarily beginning on Mountain Avenue in front of town hall and proceeding throughout town past all of our schools. Expect temporary traffic delays in the area.
