We're taking a moment of appreciation for the folks at John Deere who make a huge difference for our Food Bank Farm. A garden takes a lot of work, especially one the size of our Food Bank Farm. Our garden requires year-round expertise, maintenance and care, and the John Deere employees who volunteer with us have been a big part of helping us grow produce for our neighbors facing hunger.
In the past 7 months, volunteers from John Deere have:
- Replaced ground cover in our high tunnels
- Planted cucumbers, potatoes, onions and peppers
- Installed shade cloth in both high tunnels to protect people and plants
- Sifted compost
- Packed harvested produce
- Painted labels on all 78 raised beds
- Cleaned out 4 high tunnel rows of tomatoes and cattle panels to prep for fall planting
- Harvested 2,605 pounds of fresh produce
- Volunteer a total of 136 hour over seven volunteer sessions
A huge thank you to the John Deere volunteers who've helped our garden end hunger in the Ozarks and educate kids and adults about local agriculture.
