Across the country, Home Instead teams are showing up with purpose at Walk to End Alzheimer’s events—walking in honor of loved ones, supporting families and raising critical funds for the fight to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. 💜

We are proud to partner with the ’sAssociation as a Walk to End Alzheimer’s Gold National Team. Together, Home Instead has raised more than $5.7 million over the past 18 years, including $258,000 last year alone, to advance Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

This year, we are well on our way to reaching our goal—and every donation and every step makes a meaningful difference. Thank you to every Care Pro, office team member, client, family member and community partner who walks, fundraises and helps move this mission forward.

When searching for a senior living community, touring more than one place can make all the difference.

Look beyond the amenities and notice the everyday interactions: Do team members know residents by name? Do they speak directly to the person who may live there? Does the community feel warm, personal and welcoming?

In this Caregiver Chats clip, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole Will share why comparing communities can help families find the right fit for their loved one.

One tour rarely tells the whole story.

When you’re exploring senior living options for someone you love, visit more than one community—and pay attention to the details that reveal how people are truly cared for.

Are residents greeted by name? Are conversations warm and personal? Does the team speak directly to the older adult, not just their family?

Sometimes the clearest answer comes from comparing how each place feels.

💙 Empowering the Parkinson’s Community! 💙

Last week, members of our Home Instead San Diego team had the pleasure of participating in Parkinson’s Empowerment Day at the San Diego Town and Country Hotel in Mission Valley!

The event brought together individuals living with Parkinson’s, families, caregivers, and community organizations to share resources, build connections, raise awareness, and empower those navigating life with Parkinson’s disease.

At Home Instead, we understand that compassionate care goes beyond daily assistance. It’s about supporting independence, honoring each person’s journey, and helping individuals and families feel seen, understood, and supported.

We’re proud to be part of a community that works together to make a difference for those affected by Parkinson’s. Thank you to everyone who made this event meaningful! 💙

🐾💜 Riley Takes on Walk4Alz! 💜🐾

Even our favorite four-legged team member showed up to support a wonderful cause! 🐶💜 Riley joined Home Instead San Diego at last Saturday’s Walk4Alz, hosted by Alzheimer's San Diego , and she was ready to spread a little extra love along the way!

For those who don't know her, Riley is our official team mascot and unofficial emotional support pup! ❤️ She brings smiles, comfort, and a little furry joy to our office, and she even makes special visits to clients and CarePros who would love some puppy affection.

It was such a wonderful day filled with community, connection, inspiring stories, and people coming together to support individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's and dementia. We're so proud to have been part of it! 💜

Riley says every great cause deserves a little extra tail-wagging support! 🐾😉

🐱💜 A LITTLE GIFT, A LOT OF LOVE! 💜🐾

Sometimes, comfort comes with four paws, a soft purr, and a little companionship. 🥹

At last Saturday’s Alzheimer's San Diego Walk4Alz, we were incredibly grateful to receive a special gift: a Joy for All Companion Pet! These lifelike robotic companion pets are designed to provide comfort, sensory engagement, and companionship for older adults, including those living with dementia.

For seniors experiencing memory loss, loneliness, or social isolation, a companion pet can offer a meaningful source of connection. Its lifelike movements and gentle responses can encourage smiles, spark conversation, inspire moments of reminiscence, and provide a comforting presence—especially for those who may miss having a beloved pet of their own. ❤️

And now, this special gift is ready for its next chapter! 🐾

Rather than keeping it in our office, we're excited to bless one of our senior clients with the opportunity to “adopt” this companion cat! 🐈 We hope it brings warmth to their home, comfort to their days, and plenty of smiles along the way.

A huge thank-you to Alzheimer's San Diego for this thoughtful gift and for the wonderful partnership you share with our community. Your work supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia makes such a meaningful difference. We're honored to stand alongside you in helping our seniors feel seen, supported, and loved. 💜

And pictured here is our wonderful CarePro Maria, proudly holding our newest little companion before it finds its forever home! 🥰

Because at Home Instead San Diego, we believe care is about more than meeting daily needs. It's about nurturing connection, preserving dignity, and finding little ways to bring joy into someone's life.

Sometimes, the smallest companions bring the biggest comfort. 💜🐾

Touring senior living communities for a loved one? Look beyond the scheduled visit.

In this clip from Caregiver Chats, Nicole Will shares why it can be helpful to stop by at a different time—like an evening or weekend—and notice the everyday experience. Are residents interacting naturally? Do team members seem calm, attentive and familiar with the people they support?

The right community is about more than the building. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel connected, valued and at home.

This Saturday, our Home Instead San Diego office team is heading to Balboa Park at 8 AM to participate in Alzheimer's San Diego 10th Annual Walk4Alz! 💜🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

But this walk is about so much more than the miles we cover. It's about the individuals living with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, the families navigating the challenges of a diagnosis, and the caregivers who show up with love, patience, and compassion every single day.

At Home Instead, we see firsthand how Alzheimer's affects not only the person diagnosed but also the people who love and care for them. We believe no family should have to navigate this journey alone. That's why we're proud to support Alzheimer's San Diego and its mission to provide education, resources, support, and services to individuals and families affected by dementia in our community. 💜

🌟 Want to make a difference with us?

💜 JOIN OUR TEAM! Walk alongside our Home Instead family as we come together to raise awareness and support local families affected by Alzheimer's.

💜 MAKE A DONATION! Every contribution helps support Alzheimer's San Diego's work providing vital resources, programs, and support to those who need them.

💜 SPREAD THE WORD! Share this post, invite a friend, and help us reach more people who care about making a difference.

A scheduled tour can show you the highlights. An unscheduled visit can show you everyday life.

When you’re considering a senior living community for someone you love, Nicole Will suggests stopping by at a different time—an evening or weekend—and paying attention to what you see.

Are residents connecting? Does the team seem calm and engaged? Do people know one another by name?

It’s not just about finding a place to live. It’s about finding a place where your loved one can feel known, connected and at home.

When families begin exploring senior living, it’s easy to focus on the building first: the amenities, the dining room, the activity calendar.

But as Nicole Will () reminds us, the better place to begin is with the person.

What brings your loved one joy? Where do they find purpose? What kind of connection will help them feel known and at home?

In this episode of Caregiver Chats, Dr. Lakelyn and Nicole share a more person-centered way to approach one of caregiving’s biggest decisions.
