⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MAYOR ROBERT A. McCRAIGHT ⚠️

A significant thunderstorm has moved through Romulus, leaving widespread damage throughout our community. We are receiving reports of downed power lines, power outages, fallen trees, blocked roadways, and damage to homes and vehicles.
Please take the following precautions:
• Stay away from all downed or low-hanging wires. Always assume they are energized and dangerous. Keep children and pets away.
• Never drive over or around downed wires, fallen trees, barricades, or flooded roadways. Turn around and use another route.
• Call 911 immediately if a downed wire, fire, gas leak, fallen tree, or other storm damage presents an immediate threat to life or property. Please do not call 911 solely to report a power outage.
• Report power outages and downed electrical lines directly to your utility provider.
• Do not attempt to remove trees or large branches that are touching—or located near—power lines.
• If using a generator, operate it outdoors and well away from doors, windows, and garages. Never operate a generator inside a home, garage, basement, or other enclosed area due to the risk of deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.
• Use caution when inspecting your property. Watch for unstable trees, broken limbs, damaged structures, standing water, and hidden electrical hazards.
• Please check on elderly neighbors, individuals with disabilities, and anyone who may depend on electrically powered medical equipment.
City crews, first responders, utility workers, and our public-service partners are actively assessing damage and responding to hazardous conditions. Please give emergency and cleanup crews plenty of room to work, and do not enter areas that have been closed or barricaded.
Recovery will take time, and your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Please continue monitoring official City of Romulus communications for updates.
