STAYING AHEAD OF THE CURVE

When vehicle technology changes, our rescue tactics have to evolve with it! RFD members recently completed intensive, hands on Electric Vehicle extrication training right here at Station 1.

Cutting into an EV requires a totally different approach than a traditional car. Thanks to an incredible program RFD was able to secure 3 electric vehicles from Ford Motor Company and GLS, our firefighters were able to get real world practice dealing with high strength new vehicle construction, advanced airbags, and unique hazardous materials.

A huge shoutout to Scot McLeod the Lead Rescue Specialist from MacQueen Emergency Solutions for leading the charge. Scot is a nationally competitive extrication expert, and his deep history in the field gave our crew next level insights into modern rescue operations.

Thank you to Ford Motor Company, GLS, Scot, and our dedicated Romulus Firefighters for stepping up to the plate. Better training means a safer community! 💪🚒

The Romulus Fire Department would like give a quick thank you to Halecreek Elementary for inviting us to their first ever Trunk or Treat! 🎃👻

We enjoyed being part of the festivities and seeing so many families from our community. We appreciate everyone who stopped by and helped make it a great event!

Today marks 25 years since our world changed forever.

On September 11, 2001, 2,977 innocent souls were taken from us, including 343 of our brothers and sisters in the fire service, 71 law enforcement officers, and 55 military personnel. They didn’t hesitate. They ran up the stairs as others ran down. They answered the call, knowing the immense danger, bound only by an unwavering duty to protect their fellow human beings.

For those of us who wear the uniform, 9/11 is not a history lesson. It is a sacred vow. It is a shadow that sits beside us in the cab of the rig, and a silent promise we carry into every home, every street, and every fire we encounter.

But September 11th isn't only a reflection of unimaginable loss, it is a monument to who we are when everything else is stripped away.

In our darkest hour, America didn't break. We didn't divide. We stood side by side in the dust and the ash, holding hands, digging through rubble, lining up to give blood, and hanging flags from every porch and overpass. We remembered what this country is truly about, quiet courage, selfless sacrifice, and a neighborly love that no amount of hate can ever tear down.

To the families who still sit at dinner tables with an empty chair, we see you, we honor you, and we carry your loved ones in our hearts today and every day.

To our community here in Romulus: thank you for allowing us to serve you, to protect you, and to stand as a guard in the night.

We will never forget the fallen. We will never forget the heroes. And we will never forget who we are when we stand together as one.

👨‍🚒 Promotion: Lieutenant Ewing Joyce

We are incredibly proud to announce the promotion of Ewing Joyce from Firefighter/Medic to Lieutenant! A 5-year veteran of the department, Lt. Joyce has deep ties to our community and a proven dedication to keeping Romulus safe. We are so happy to have him on our team and are excited to watch him continue his leadership journey with the Romulus Fire Department. Congratulations, Lt. Joyce!

🚒 Welcome: Firefighter Matt Lee

We are also excited to welcome Matt Lee to the RFD family! Matt comes to us as a lateral hire with excellent experience and is currently hard at work enrolled in his paramedic program. He is already a great addition to the family, and we wish him the absolute best with his continuing education and a long, successful career here in Romulus. Welcome aboard, Matt!
