This is an extremely rare sight — seeing this many ladder trucks all in one place, working together as one team during the aerial ladder operations portion of our Driver/Operator course.

Different departments. Different crews. One mission.

Training like this builds coordination, communication, and confidence for the moments when lives depend on it. Proud to watch these firefighters sharpen their skills and push themselves to be better for the communities they serve every day. 🚒

What a week.

We have had a Huge Fish Fry FUNDRAISER last Friday.

We passed out City Yard Sale maps Saturday.

We had EMT classes at on Sunday.

We had training for our department at on Tuesday.

We had a call for help with a patient from our friends at Jasper Co. EMS.

We had a call southeast of Rens. to an accident.

We had 3 calls to the Interstate. One looked like the gates of hell.

We had a tractor fire today.

We had a national recognized group come Saturday and share auto extraction techniques Saturday. The guys had some good comments about this one. Learned some new tricks.

More EMT training this evening.

Tomorrow, May 11th is our 130th birthday.! We are sure we are older than that but, that’s the official date we will go with for now. Who would have ever thought a volunteer department would grow to this size?

So, Happy Birthday to us. Most of our guys are so busy trying to do everything you do with jobs and family AND respond the emergencies that they don’t even realize it. There are a few leftover chocolate chip cookies at the station from Saturdays training. That will have to suffice.

I’ve included a few pictures showing the names of past members if you are interested. We can guarantee these aren’t all the names but, it’s most of them.

Call us if you need us. We have been open 24/7/365 for 130 years!

Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated by all those who dedicated their time to training and improving their skills. Partnerships like this help keep our firefighters prepared and our communities safer. Thank you again for taking care of our crews!

Tomorrow, 9:00 am CST Saturday, May 9th we are hosting the Citizens First Fire Training. This is a group that travels throughout the U.S. teaching extrication and rescue techniques. Although our department is fortunate to have many members with years of experience and education, we also have newer members that can benefit greatly from this all day course. In addition, we are welcoming any firefighters from any other department.

Preparation for this event turns our parking area into what looks like the lineup for our county fair demolition derby. These vehicles will be fully destroyed tomorrow during training. There is no classroom instruction that can top hands on experience when it comes to understanding extrication and rescue.

We owe a HUGE measure of gratitude to our local wrecker services for their effort to supply us with “victims”.

Delivering, positioning and removing these cars is a great task and our friends at D-1, Paul’s Towing, and Farney’s all agreed to help us.

Thank you all!

As part of our ongoing training initiative, tonight we hosted a Driver/Operator class focused on the proper setup and operation of a ladder truck. These photos highlight firefighters from across Northwest Indiana utilizing our training facility while sharpening the skills necessary to safely and effectively operate one of the fire service’s most important apparatus.

Training opportunities like this continue to strengthen cooperation, professionalism, and readiness throughout the region. We appreciate everyone who attended and the instructors who helped make tonight’s training a success.

We are currently at another crash site. This is a secondary incident to the fire earlier this morning.
