Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation

Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation Original group of local citizens that came together to create a non-profit to help save the hatchery

Only 14 blocks from the Washington State Fair, the Puyallup Fish Hatchery operates today, as it has since 1949, nestled on 80 acres of beautiful natural habitat. In 2012 the Puyallup Hatchery was given new life when citizens came forward at a time it was about to be lost, got involved and created the Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation. This unique hatchery is now the 2nd hatchery to ever be p

laced on the Historic Registry in Washington State. Open daily to the public from 8am to dusk, visitors are able to see the various stages of trout and salmon development in the “nursery” and enjoy the trails behind the hatchery, past the Heron rookery and over Clark's Creek, up through deep canopied woods. The Educational Center, next to the hatchery, is open Saturday’s 10am to 2pm. The Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation, with a mission to promote watershed stewardship through education, offers guided tours on request.

Members of Scout Troop DXVI volunteered at the hatchery this morning, removing several small dead trees and replacing them with new ones, along with a bit of weeding. These fine young men are working towards their Citizenship in the Community merit badges! They plan to be back in a few weeks to help again with another project! Good job! Your work is appreciated!

Thursday was a beautiful day to share our STEM program with three 4th grade classes from Wilkeson Elementary School. The bus arrived with about 60 students. Divided into six groups our volunteers from Puyallup Historical Hatchery Foundation and Pierce Conservation District headed out to the various teaching stations. Two hours later with happiness and excitement filling the air they loaded up for the drive back to school. What a great field trip! Thank you volunteers!
